We booked a vlei cottage but when we arrived were told that there had been a mix up and we were put into a village cottage instead with free breakfast.
As birdwatchers, we particularly booked the vlei cottage and would not have booked in the village so free breakfasts were not really compensation.
I spoke to the booking clerk who said she had emailed me the previous day but the only email I received was on the morning of our arrival.
Eventually we were offered free dinner as well and the posibility of moving into the manor house for our second night but as the water was cut off in most of the complex while we were there but remained on in the village cottage we were in, we stayed put.
The cottage was well furnished and very pleasant but very close to the road and we were woken by traffic at 5am both mornings.
The staff were all very pleasant and helpful.
The restaurant served good though not outstanding food and we thought the choice [only 2 options for each course] rather limited.
The place itself is beautiful but as a couple slightly expensive.

I really enjoyed unwinding at De Hoop. The scenery was wonderful and everything was peaceful. Staff at the restaurant were very friendly and helpful. As a single traveller I really enjoyed my time there.

We enjoyed the beautiful rondavel with a lovely view of the river and koppie. To see the river and the baboons while showering was quite a treat! All-in-all, a nice experience.
Wonderful opportunity to experience natural beauty in the Cape

Loved the dunes, beautiful rock pools and abundant bird life. Koppie Alleen looks like a great place to stay.
We stayed in the Opstal's equipped cottages and my six- and four-year old had a ball.

Self-catering accommodation at Opstal excellent. Walking east or west from Koppie Alleen wonderful. Recommend bird- ing tour with Pierre. Lovely guy. Gravel
roads from entrance gate to De Hoop and
Koppie Alleen awful unless you've got a 4x4. Will go there again next year.

We enjoyed our stay. The baboons were a bit scary, the weather was great. The first night was awesome, as we had the privilege to stay in one of the guest houses. The walks we took was awesome, as we walked each morning and each night after we had eaten. The animals we saw was a great experience for us. We went to the beach and also enjoyed the pool on the reserve. Thanks to the staff for their assistance and kindness.
Amazing place to stay!

We stayed in one of five rondavels in the De Hoop National Park and loved it! The park is so peaceful, you see zebras, bontebok etc. You can make coffee/tea or a braai in front of the rondavel. The De Hoop Collection also has a nice restaurant. The dunes at the beachfront were wonderful and unforgettable.

We loved our little rondavel overlooking the vlei and would choose it again but we did feel it was rather expensive for accommodation with shared toilets and outdoor showers.
PEACE AND PASSION

My stay in de Hoop will stay in my memory. There I found a magic beauty and energy, found a rare peace surrounded by nature and animals, met welcoming and impassioned people (the cook and the guide who took us through nature). My rondavel was my perfect little home for the three days looking onto to the lake with all its inhabitants, the birds. I was happy to feel this sensation of quality and safety coming originally from Switzerland. I just missed a little smile on the face of the cleaning lady. Well, this perhaps made me realize and really appreciate how perfect all the rest was?
Thank you and I will come back to refill my batteries and meet peace and passion
Thank you South Africa!
You must chill-out here!

We spent two nights at the Vlei Cottages and had such a relaxing time. The reserve is so beautifully laid out with cottages situated very close to the vlei. The restaurant service was excellent and I have to rave about the cappuccinos. It is a fantastic place to chill out from a busy lifestyle. There are many activities do partake in - tennis, boule, cycling tracks, swimming in rock pools at low tide, kayaking on the vlei. The best of all was the friendly service, stunning decor and an amazing coast line. A definite must!

Pleasant, comfortable stay but a bit expensive considering quality of equipment, facilities and finishes in the cottages. Good menu and food at restaurant. Restaurant staff were also very accommodating about providing children with 'kiddies fare' which was not on the dinner menu.
A sensational spot accessible to the Cape Peninsula

De Hoop is a gem and I was delighted with the standard of the rondavels where I stayed for four nights, and especially with the high quality of the food, wines and decor of the Fig Tree Restaurant.
The weather was challenging much of the time, with high winds, cool temperatures and some cloudy days but the ambiance was wonderful.
