Two nights in the honeymoon suite

26 July 2009 The directions to the Lodge were excellent - it was just a pity that the final few km was down a road that was pure Mpumalanga, with potholes big enough to shake my bones followed by speed humps (!) of a viciousness that their size disguised.
Once there, I was warmly welcomed - with an apology for the fact that the room that was supposed to have been mine wasn't available, so instead they had decided to put me in the honeymoon suite. Did I mind? Slightly - if I had but known, I'd have brought my wife!
Then I hadn't thought of dinner. Would it be possible? If I didn't mind pork, no problem. And at 6.30, I was summoned. A real South African meal - great slabs of delicious roast pork, 'pap' and bredie gravy, mixed beans and beetroot, enough for two hungry men. Then lashings of fresh fruit, and coffee.
That night it was -2 deg C, and even with the heater on, the room had a distinct chill. But the blankets! One fur rug, with an artificial suede backing; a double thick patterned rug; and the usual sheets, and I was as warm as anything. A hot shower in the morning made the chill bearable, and the towel was large and super-adsorbent.
Breakfast was another good South African feast - two huge smoked sausages, lashings of scrambled egg, lots of toast with delicious jams and strong coffee.
The second evening was much like the first, except I went out to a nearby mall for dinner, and watched a little TV in the lounge when I returned. The lounge had satellite TV with a wide choice of channels - the bedroom only had six channels, most of them SATV which I never normally watch, and I hope it will be a long time before I do so again.
I left early the next morning, before breakfast, as I had to be in Johannesburg by 7. I enjoyed my stay - I was most comfortable, and the charges very reasonable.
A lovely stay.
