Very nice
simona cherubini, Italy - Sunday, 31 July 2011
The lodge is very nice and the atmosphere is really romantic; the owners are very kind and do anything possible to make you enjoy your stay. Etienne and his mother are excellent chefs! The Kruger Park is about 30 minutes away and Marloth itself is a park where you can meet giraffe, zebra and monkeys. When you are travelling during winter, remember that in the rooms there is no heating.
Quite Simply - Magical!

We spent 6 fantastic nights at Maqueda Lodge and enjoyed every minute - this really is a very, very special place to stay! From the moment we arrived we were made to feel like close family (the welcome type!). Nothing was too much trouble for the van der Nest family and they really were the perfect hosts. The location is simply stunning and seeing and hearing all the wonderful wildlife on your doorstep is just amazing! The food cooked and prepared by Etienne and Joyce (and served by Francois!) was quite possibly the best food we have ever had. Francois and Etienne were more than happy to arrange any trips for us and the guides they use were excellent. Throughout our stay we noticed several personal touches which made the stay even more special and we can whole heartedly recommend this lodge to anyone.
Surprise after surprise at Maqueda Lodge: real value for money
Gina Provo Kluit, South Africa - Tuesday, 19 January 2010
I have been to a few upmarket lodges in the Kruger area, but I have never ever experienced anything like Maqueda Lodge. The lodge was beautifully and creatively decorated. It was all very clean. The rooms were comfortable and had both an indoor and an outdoor shower. One morning I was taking a shower outside, while lions were roaring on the background!!! And last but NOT least, was the service. It was FAR above average. The family (vder Nest) was so extremely friendly and warm. They really made us feel part of their family. And the food (prepared by them) was superb! Their cuisine can easily compete with the best restaurants in the country. ALL the food was freshly made (fresh juices, fruits, pasta, soups etc etc). Even the insect repellent in the rooms was homemade!!! I will really go back. This time not only for the gamedriving (Kruger is really close), but I'll also take one day just to relax at 'this piece of paradise on earth'.
Wonderful stay

We had a wonderful stay and the lodge was of the highest standard. Great food, good company and a great place to visit. Thank you very much to the Van der Nest family which made us feel at home since the minute we arrived at the lodge. We can highly recommend this place if you want to have a great African experience...
Wild at heart!

Maqueda is certainly in the bush! We entered Malelane Gate of Kruger Park to reach it. Great rustic lodge. Our hosts were absolutely lovely people and made us feel very welcome. Breakfast was our best in three weeks of travel. It was served on the open air porch and we were accompanied by a visiting warthog looking for scraps! Quite an isolated location with two restaurants to visit. These also follow the rustic theme and are adequate....the highlight being the mini night game drive to reach them! The springbok nursery residents were probably as surprised to see us as we were to see them! On leaving the lodge, we then drove through Kruger and left via Numbi Gate. Very convenient. Recommended.
Fantastic

Our stay was fantastic and Joyce and Gert made us feel very welcome. They were both extremely helpful and Maqueda Lodge itself was very comfortable - we'd definitely go back!

We enjoyed the power of silence. The tranquility of the bush, safe and secured in our boma listening to the' night sound of wild music'.

Stephan Visagie, South Africa - Tuesday, 13 June 2006
Thanks to our gracious hosts Gerhard and Joyce, thanks to the beautifully appointed Maqueda Lodge and thanks to the most private and tranquil setting I have ever experienced, I came back a new person. As soon as time allows it, I will be back for a follow up stay. Affordability, privacy and a beautiful bushveld setting was high on my agenda, I am glad to say that the Maqueda Lodge and it's hosts by far exceeded my expectations. Thanks once again for a wonderful stay!
