Description

Relax in a large, secure, walled garden in the heart of Gaborone on ultra-quiet Zebra Way - the inspiration for "Zebra Drive" in Alexander McCall-Smith's No 1 Ladies' Detective novels.

Gaborone is the capital and largest city of Botswana, situated between Kgale and Oodi Hills, on the Notwane River in the south eastern corner of Botswana, just 15 km from the South African border.

Zebra Way Garden Cottage is a two-minute walk from public transport, a five-minute walk from the Gaborone Sun and Maruapula Shopping Centre and a pleasant 20-minute walk to the Main Hall, National Museum and University of Botswana.

The cottage contains a double bed and TV and is semi-equipped for self-catering as it also features a bar fridge, microwave and a kettle. Outside, there is a four-seater dining table and chairs as well as barbecue facilities.

A wonderful and welcoming house-keeper. Peaceful and secure place to stay. Good space for parking and for kids to run around. Tidy-enough little kitchen. The only downside were huge mosquitoes and massive spiders and a moldy shower. Would recommend buying a mosquito coil or repellent.

There is nothing negative about this garden cottage. For the money this is a bargain (really). Very private in a big plot with very friendly and helpful people (John & the house keeper) lots of shade for young children to play and safe parking (very important for some) and so peaceful. We had a wonderfull stay.

04 March 2014

Great use of space with lovely outdoor dining. We enjoyed the space - the bedroom is tiny but the kitchen, dining/sitting area and bathroom are separate so it feels spacious enough. The kitchen has good equipment for cooking meals, and the yard is a beautiful space to relax and enjoy the lovely shade trees with a friendly old dog curled up in the corner (but never in the way, just using the coolest corner under the shade, we didn't even notice him for a few hours). We did leave early because they were having problems with the hot water heater (although at this time of year it's not a problem if the water temp is a little cool) and the Internet wasn't reliable due to upgrades in the neighbourhood. Presumably this will be resolved shortly. In all, we can easily recommend this for a great budget stay in a quiet neighbourhood central to lots of places in Gaborone.

I spent 5 weeks in the cottage. It is easy to walk to Main Mall or catch a combi nearby. Maruapula shopping centre is a 10-minute-walk away and there you will find a supermarket, pharmacy and a liquor store. The neighbourhood is safe and the owner of the house is extremely friendly and flexible. A cleaning-lady comes twice a week. Since it is a cottage, you might see a few spiders and such here and there, but you get used to it. Gaborone Sun Hotel is nearby and there you can jump into a pool, enjoy the poolside bar and restaurant or go to a casino. I highly recommend this place for any budget traveller or anyone who wishes to stay at a place where you can cook your own food, have barbecues or just enjoy your own private little place near the center of the city.

18 December 2012

You have your own cottage with shower, toilet and kitchen area under one roof. The room is decorated really nice and equipped with everything we could think of, if you have a lot of luggage ask them to store it in the main house for you, as there is not a lot of space available for that in the cottage. The manager is super friendly and supportive, ask him for current taxi numbers or anything else, he will be really helpful.
