Duinerus Self-catering Accommodation is a cosy, luxurious and comfortable guest house situated conveniently close to the N1 in the quiet, upmarket suburb of Universitas Ridge in Bloemfontein.

Duinerus offers excellent self-catering accommodation in three Twin Rooms and one Family Room. Our luxurious Twin Rooms each feature an en-suite bathroom and two single beds. The bathrooms are adapted to support people with assisted living needs and a certain level of physical disability. Each room also includes a TV with SABC, M-Net and selected DStv channels and each guest has has a separate personal fridge in the kitchen.

Our top of the class Family Room comprises a bedroom, bathroom, lounge and semi self-catering kitchen. The unit is equipped with a double and a single bed, but can accommodate five people if needed. Ingredients for a self-help continental breakfast, cereals, milk, yogurt and juice are included.

All our rooms offer affordable accommodation well suited for business travellers, tourists, hospital visitors or sport/culture loving guests who want to enjoy a fun-filled weekend in our friendly city. Braai facilities and secure under cover, off street parking is also provided.

We are conveniently located close to the UFS, major sporting venues, shopping malls, and Universitas, Medi-Clinic and Bloemcare Hospitals.

I had real trouble finding accommodation in Bloemfontein, as our visit coincided with the 100th birthday celebrations of the African National Congress (ANC) and everywhere in town seemed to be booked out. After some difficulty, I managed to find the Duinerus Guest House - and what a find it was! Located in a quiet suburb sandwiched between the University of the Free State and the N1 highway. It was a home-from-home and an absolute gem for people travelling on a budget. The accommodation is self catering, but the owner has been very generous in equipping the kitchens with tea, coffee, milk, bread, fruit juice, butter, jam and rusks - in other words, the makings of a perfectly adequate breakfast at no additional cost. The rooms, all en suite, are compact but comfortable and equipped with both fans and heaters to cope with Bloem's somewhat extreme climate. There is secure off-street parking, and the surroundings are pleasant. I should note that there is no air-conditioning and no swimming pool, but for this price, it wouldn't be reasonable to expect this. What makes this place so outstanding is the generosity and thoughtfulness of the host. She struck an excellent balance between being friendly and helpful, yet not intrusive (I can't bear hosts who crowd and fuss over you) and her accommodation is some of the best value-for-money I've experienced in a long time. The guest house is well located for those wanting a break on the long haul to and from Cape Town, and it doesn't require a major detour from the highway. It is also excellently located for the university, from which I suspect it derives a large proportion of its business. Should you wish to self cater, it is also close to a well-stocked Spar supermarket on Nelson Mandela Drive and several restaurants within a short drive. We stayed in a unit comprising three en-suite bedrooms with a shared kitchen-living area, which was ideal for a family travelling together. An absolute find, and I cannot recommend it highly enough!
