Harare City of Harare Province

Lovely, walkable city - Although the city's infrastructure is crumbling, we found the culture and spirit of Harare alive and well during the HIFA festival May 1-5. Joyful dance, music, drama, and fashion were on display at locations around the city center. We felt safe walking during the daytime, but took cabs after dark. Taxi drivers didn't seem to know many of the restaurants or bars that we asked to go to, so always have street names handy. Come with a map, it was oddly difficult to find a tourist map of Harare once we arrived. We ended up being directed to a random cartography center, where the only map of the city they had was $30 with more detail than we'd ever need. Recommend the half-chicken at Coimbra for delicious lunch. Walk as much as possible, it's the best way to see the city center!

Harare - a run down city showing signs of revival. the southern industrial area a disaster zone. The traffic lights not working and traffic officials only interested in making money, mostly on trumped up charges, a put off of note. ordinary citizens mostly friendly and willing, but I believe living in fear.

Sally Bown - The capital of Zimbabwe, established 120 years ago. Diverse and bustling, ranging from the peoples' markets to business and shopping malls a short way into the suburbs. Five star Hotels,to Lodges and Bed & Breakfasts offer a variety of accommodation. Activities to suit all - see "N'Deipi" monthly magazine for current and sporting events. Mukuvisi Woodlands close to town for a sight of wildlife without going on safari.

Famous city in Zim - Oh, it is a beautiful place. I could not fathom in my wildest dreams that it could be such a big city! It was busy but I could sense the passion for life and to exceed as a human being.
