Description
Oceanfront Cliff Path Nature Reserve - Whales with their calves in your front garden and unbelievable views. Hermanus - Internationally known as the whale capital of the world, it's a 60 mile drive form CT airport and listed in the book "1000 Places to see before you die" The Cottage - This historical cottage (1820's) is located on a 1 km strip of virtually uninterrupted coastline directly oceanfront, bordered by public look out spots for whale watchers with the cliff path going right past behind it. Certainly the most unique setting in Hermanus, it offers you incredible privacy and peace whilst a stone throw away from the CBD: Shops, restaurants, medical facilities, tourist attractions, hotels, sea pools (one at the Marine Hotel and "flick's pool", about 300m from the cottage all within walking distance. The cottage's cliff side and its garden is part of the Cliff Path Nature Area and allows you to enjoy the wildlife and plants indigenous to the shore line, as well as whales and their calves during breeding and mating season. (August - November). Even during bad weather, all this can be seen from the sofas in the lounge. Located in the heart of the coastal fishing village of Hermanus, Wendy's cottage is named after a lone female whale that used to visit the town in the late 1930's. According to SJ du Toit's book, "Hermanus Stories", this whale, who was fondly know as Wendy, was considered one of the family by the Village folk, as she returned annually without fail to give birth to her calf, in the curve of the shore line called "Die Piering", right in front of the cottage. She stopped coming to the bay in the early 1940's. The tradition was carried on to the 1950's when another female whale was named Wendy. The press regularly reported on the movements of Wendy and her calf. Extra costs involved is a Security& Damages Deposit payable upon arrival as well as a once off Cleaning and Linen fee of R400.
