A lovely, peaceful location.

We enjoyed our stay at SEC&C, very friendly & sociable hosts & though we weren't diving they made sure we were included & informed about local activities. we found plenty to do between the amazing beach, game park, and Indian head massage in the village...a lovely, peaceful location.

Sea Escapes/Toad Tree Lodge

We had a wonderful weekend and highly recommend Sea Escapes and Toad Tree Lodge. Lindsay is an awesome Dive Master and made the diving extra special. We have dived all over the world and very frequently at Sodwana and there is no ways we will dive with any one else whilst he is around. Lindsay and Janice are fabulous company and made us feel we had come home for a weekend. You have to go there is meet the cats We are definitely going back soon!

Description

Sea Escapes invite you to experience the magic of Sodwana Bay above and below the waves. The pristine coastal forests bordered by the world’s highest naturally vegetated dunes which shelter golden beaches, and washed by the warm Indian Ocean current, offers visitors an exceptional scuba diving and snorkeling experience.  We are privileged to share this underwater paradise with the many sea creatures that have made Sodwana Bay their home and we invite you to join us as we explore this underwater world of incredible beauty, fascinating aquatic life and, abounding in Indo-Pacific fish, whale sharks, turtles, and manta rays that live amongst the many caves and overhangs.

With a choice of double cabins and family cottages, guests are assured of comfort and personal attention, combined with an intimacy with nature. The Lodge is easily accessible, just off the main Mbazwana / Sodwana road and once within the camp, life slows down to the rhythms of nature and the rising and setting of the sun dictates our movements. Toad Tree Cabins is perfectly situated for guests who want to base themselves in the heart of this pristine area and further explore the region.

The African sunset sees you sipping sundowners beside the pool at Toad Tree Cabins, or exchanging tales around the camp fire, to the sound of the African drums and the sizzling of meat on the braai. International and local eco-tourists marvel at the distinct ecosystems and prolific animal, bird and plant life to say nothing of the sight of humpback whales as they spout and gambol close to the shoreline en-route to their Southern Ocean feeding grounds. We are within 100km of 5 of the major game reserves i.e. Tembe Elephant Park,  Ndumu Game Reserve, Hluhluwe/Umfolozi Game Reserve, Phinda Game Reserve and Mkuze Game Reserve. Kosi Bay, Border Cave, Lake Sibiya and other exceptional areas are also close at hand, but only accessible in a 4x4 vehicle.Tours can be arranged. Sodwana Bay is a diving paradise with 5 main dive sites.  Quarter-mile is a shallow reef, ranging from 2-13m and is popular for sightings of the spotted ragged toothed sharks, migrating northwards along the KwaZulu-Natal coast from the Cape. They spend their gestation period during December and January with us and diving on the reef is controlled. Two-mile reef has many popular dive sites such as Anton's, Caves, Aquarium, Chain Reef and Pinnacles.  Five-mile lies at depths ranging from 18m to 24m, with its predominance of hard corals, this reef is only suitable for the more experienced divers, as the corals are very susceptible to diver damage. Seven-mile and nine-mile are the most popular of the further reefs, due to the huge diversity of fish, beautiful overhangs, rocks and drop-offs. A number of submarine canyons in the area, starting from as shallow as 40 m and dropping off to the continental shelf and beyond, are found offshore. It was in these canyons at about 110 meters, that a number of coelacanths, the living "fossils", were recently discovered. We are committed to the conservation of our coral reefs and dunes, and strive to give our guests an eco-tourism experience to remember. We will respond to your booking enquiry promptly and would love to welcome you to our Lodge! Our hospitable staff is on hand to ensure a stay to be savoured and remembered.
