Tangala Safari Camp

Description

Tangala is one of the last truly authentic experiences that has been a legacy of the Potgieter family for more than three generations. This intimate and exclusive safari camp is situated in the 22000-acre Thornybush Private Nature Reserve, a prime ecological area with an abundance of wildlife.

We continually strive to recreate the original down to earth hospitality of years gone by. Early explorers created a legacy of adventure and discovery, reliving the romance of the Old World in the comfort and security of our camp. The thatched chalets have en-suite bathroom facilities and paraffin lantern lighting. Tangala provides authentic, rustic luxury at an affordable price.

The camp consists of a central dining and lounge area with full bar and a swimming pool with a deck. Five double en-suite chalets with shaded verandahs are available to guests. Hot water is provided at all times with donkey-boilers. The camp is electricity free. Our team strives to give all guests the ultimate African bush experience. The camp boasts striking views of the Drakensberg Mountains and is situated next to the world-famous Kruger National Park.

Morning game drives include coffee and tea and night drives include sundowners. Guests can also enjoy our guided bush walks. Meals include full breakfasts, lunch, afternoon tea, snacks and a boma dinner. Guests can expect to see lion, wild dog, elephant, leopard, rhino, cheetah, buffalo, giraffe, zebra and more. Our professional rangers and skilled trackers ensure an exciting and informative experience. Guests not only get close to game, but also learn to identify trees and plants, taste edible fruit, follow in the footsteps of animals great and small and learn about local bush lore. After the awe inspiring experience of a night drive, lanterns welcome you back to camp and guide you along the pathways to the bush boma for an African feast under the southern stars.

Children over 12 are accommodated. Children under 12 will be accommodated on special application.

We spent some unforgetable days and nights at the camp...with spotting a lot of wild animals and listening to Henni's stories beside the fire. Don't miss this!!

We spent 5 days of our honeymoon at Tangala and couldn't have been treated better. The people were fantastic and the game viewing was superb. I cannot recommend this camp enough.

Tangala is a truly wonderful place where one can enjoy the the feeling of being in the wild without having to rough it. My mother and I had a wonderful time at Tangala. We were made to feel at home, were treated lke old friends and every effort was made to let my elderly mother experience all there is. The camp is wheelchair friendly and the game sightings were magnificant. The tracker and ranger at the camp went out of thier way to find varoius game species and provide us with exc ... more
WEEKEND STAY AT TANGALA
HILTON FELDMAN, South Africa
16 August 2006
My family and I had a wondeful weekend at Tangala. The game viewing was great and we appreciated the effort made by Jimmy the field guide to show us as much as possible. I must say I often visit private game parks and have met quite a few game rangers, but have never come across anyone as knowledgable and informative as Jimmy. You can see how passionate he is about his work as it comes across in his attitude towards his guests. It was fantastic.
We will be back - working very hard as we write!!

We had a wonderful time at Tangala and were very sad that we were only able to stay the one night. The whole experience was made particularly memorable by all the staff who were fantastic - Jimmy and Bennet, who perservered to find us that Leopard, Richard who cooked us the most wonderful meals and Leisel who was the greatest hostess! Having grown up in Africa it was trully wonderful to share the 'real' experience with my English husband. The smell of the paraffin brought back some ... more
