We spent some unforgetable days and nights at the camp...with spotting a lot of wild animals and listening to Henni's stories beside the fire. Don't miss this!!

Absolutely wonderul


We spent 5 days of our honeymoon at Tangala and couldn't have been treated better. The people were fantastic and the game viewing was superb. I cannot recommend this camp enough.

Terrific Tangala


Tangala is a truly wonderful place where one can enjoy the the feeling of being in the wild without having to rough it. My mother and I had a wonderful time at Tangala. We were made to feel at home, were treated lke old friends and every effort was made to let my elderly mother experience all there is. Description



Tangala is one of the last remaining authentic experiences that have been a legacy of the Potgieter family for more than 3 generations. This intimate and exclusive private safari camp is situated in the 22 000 acre Thornybush Private Nature Reserve, a prime ecological area abounding in wildlife.

Tangala succeeded in maintaining its earthy appeal after the recent upgrading of our facilities. We continually strive to recreate the original down to earth hospitality of years gone by. Early explorers created a legacy of adventure and discoveries, relive the romance of old at Tangala in the comfort and security of our Safari Camp.

Accommodation at the camp will bring back memories of a time long forgotten. The thatched chalets have en suite bathroom facilities and paraffin lantern lighting. Tangala is authentic rustic luxury at an affordable price.

The camp consist of a central dining and lounge area with full bar and a swimmingpool with a deck. Five double en suite chalets with shaded verandah. Hot water is provided at all times with “donkey-boilers” (geyser). The camp is electricity free. Children catered for, 12 years and over only. Children younger than 12 years on special application.

At Tangala we have created the feel of Africa long forgotten and our team strives to give all guests the ultimate African bush experience. Tangala has striking views of the Drakensberg Mountains and is next to the world famous Kruger National Park.

Big 5 and other wildlife in the Thornybush Game Reserve have habituated this region for thousands of years. Experience the wildlife and expert interpretations from our safari guides. Guided bushwalks will enlighten you with creatures big and small.

Two game drives in open vehicles. Morning game drives include coffee and tea, night drives include sundowners. Bush walks. Meals include full breakfast, lunch, mid afternoon tea, snacks and boma dinner.

Game viewing at Tangala is excellent and compare with the best in the world. Guest can expect to see lion, wild dog, elephant, leopard, rhino, cheetah, buffalo, giraffe, zebra and other general game on game drives twice a day.

Professional rangers and skilled trackers ensure an exciting and informative game experience. Wildlife interpretations featuring creatures big and small provide insights into bushveld ecology on guided bush walks.

Wildlife activities here enable guests to ‘touch, taste and smell’ the bushveld. The day begins with a game drive of a few hours’ duration, accompanied by a qualified ranger and tracker. Guests not only get close to Big Game but also learn to identify trees and plants, taste edible fruit, follow in the footsteps of animals great and small and learn about local bush lore.

The biodiversity of the reserve attracts a wide variety of wildlife including the ‘Big 5’. Our staff includes well-trained and experienced rangers who will share with you one of Africa’s most splendid ecosystems. Wildlife interpretations provide insights into bushveld ecology on guided bush walks

Become one with the bush as you track silently after the spoor of wildlife during game drives. The night game viewing is an experience of its own. The nocturnal sightings might include bushbabies, the elusive genet, or hunting predators stalking their prey. Lanterns welcome you back and guide you along the pathways to the bush boma for an African feast under the southern stars.
