Description
For a real 'African Experience' Taita Falcon Lodge is the place to stay! The lodge is stunningly perched on the very edge of the Batoka Gorge, offering superb views of the raging waters 200m below.
Paths weave through native bush and gardens from the Lodge's central living area, viewing deck and pool to your secluded chalet.
All of the furnishings at the Lodge have been fashioned from indigenous materials by local craftsmen.
You will feel at home with your hosts and staff who will see that your needs are catered for. You will also feel a keen sense of privilege with resident Taita and Peregrine Falcons, Vereaux Eagles and a vast array of other bird life.
A sumptuous 3 course buffet dinner is served in the open sided dining area.
Each chalet is en-suite, with mosquito nets on all the beds. The chalets are open plan and constructed of reed and stone. We use mosquito coils in the rooms, and hot water bottles during the colder months.
Of the 7 chalets, 3 can be made up to family rooms sleeping a maximum of 2 adults and 3 children. The remaining 4 chalets can be made up as either double, twin or triple rooms.
The atmosphere at Taita Falcon Lodge is casual and informal and normal safari resort clothing is both practical and acceptable. During the summer months, cool clothing is essential, with long protective clothing for evenings. From May to September, it can be quite cold at night and in the early mornings, so warmer clothing is advised.
Hats, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, walking shoes and appropriate clothing and shoes for activities such as white water rafting or abseiling should be brought along. Binoculars are also advised. For white water rafting, shoes which are suitable for rock climbing but which can get wet and can be strapped securely to the foot are essential
The Victoria Falls area is a photographers paradise, particularly along the Zambezi where one can capture wildlife scenes against a landscape of water and African vistas. A telephoto lens of 100-300mm is advised for both game and bird life, and ultra violet filters should be considered. For early morning and late afternoon game drives, high speed film is recommended. 35mm film can be developed and memory sticks downloaded in Livingstone.
