Rietbokspruit Farm Cottages

Description

Escape the frantic pace and glare of city life to the soft glow of paraffin lamps and the flickering warmth of candle light. Let the silence of the African bush lull you to sleep broken only by the cry of the jackal and the soft fluting of the nightjar. Go back to an era where evening sundowners were a nightly tradition and the starry sky was not overpowered by the fluorescent beam of street lamps. Rietbokspruit Farm Cottages are hidden deep in the Waterberg bushveld and hold onto the way of life from a century ago. Owned by the Jackson Family since 1902, Rietbokspruit is nearly 400 hectares of unspoilt bushveld and rocky koppies in the foothills of the Waterberg, close to the town of Naboomspruit/Mookgophong.

Each of the thatched mud-walled cottages is completely private and is fully-equipped with gas cookers, fridges and geysers for hot water. Embrace flickering candle light, the warmth of a log fire and a break from the busy modern world. Cook by gas stove or braai. Old-fashioned paraffin lamps and candles provide lighting and the luxurious beds are dressed with 100 percent percale cotton linens.

With a rich birdlife of around two hundred species, especially raptors, found among the indigenous trees and grasses, Rietbokspruit is ideally suited to birders and bush enthusiasts seeking peace and privacy. Walk and ramble through malaria free bushveld or climb steeper koppies with your canine companion at your side. Cycling enthusiasts may bring mountain bikes to explore our sand and dirt roads. Naturally occurring wildlife on the farm includes duiker, bushbuck, kudu, blesbok, steenbok, klipspringer, warthog, bush pig, honey badger, aardvark, porcupine, civet, genet, rock hyrax, bushbabies, monkeys, jackal, brown hyena, baboon, African wild cat, caracal, serval, leopard and many smaller species.

Please note there are no electricity means there is no television, no Jacuzzi, no plunge pool. No quad bikes or motorcycles permitted as this will disturb our peaceful place. Rietbokspruit offers a retreat to simpler days, a rustic retreat where you may rest and revitalize your soul.

Calm and secluded - great for stargazing!
Johan Theron, South Africa
29 August 2011
We had a quiet, restful night at Boekenhout cottage. Charming old cottage with loads of character; surrounded by dark skies and quiet bushveld. Will come back for some more of the same.
A fabulous weekend

The stay in Boekenhout Cottage was just what we needed. It was private and quiet, just what a person living in the city needs once in a while. We will certainly be back for another stay. The dogs also loved it.
