Dissappointing

We stayed in six places during our recent trip The Royal in Ladysmith was the most expensive and the most disappointing: 1. Small room 2. Dampness on the walls. 3. Non smoking room yet there was a bad smell of tobacco. 4. Room had a generally unhealthy smell 5. Toilet made a long and unpleasant noise after flushing. 6. No sound proofing to outside courtyard therefor noise was bad. 7. Mattress is well past its date

The accommodation was comfortable; the staff friendly;the historic photos interesting and the best steak I have ever had was the Ladysmith steak. We found heaps to see in surrounding areas, Rorke's Drift , Blood River etc.

After having a car accident the manager of the hotel took us to hospital and stayed with us for 3 hours while we got checked out. He insisted that he stayed until he knew we were OK. The staff had the same attitude and made our stay very comfortable and made us feel at home.
