  • Our kitchen specializes in offering cuisine that features traditional South African flavours, dishes, and cooking styles and our wine list has been hand-picked to provide our guests with a selection of some of the finest affordable wines that South Africa has to offer.
  • We drive both early morning and late afternoon to maximise game viewing opportunities.

  • A guided bush walk is for the more intrepid traveller that likes to experience nature up close and personal and often at very close quarters.
  • Zebra are always so photogenic and with the lush green grass in the back their black and white stripes make a startling contrast.
  • These two lovely ladies are often seen close to this dam, they could be sisters or perhaps just good friends.
  • We have two territorial big bull elephants that roam around. They are more often seen that the cows with their calves that seem to prefer to hide in thick bush.
  • Here you can relax and cool off in the heat of the day between meals and game drives.
  • We met this confused trio as we were wandering back from our game drive. Being very close to the lodge we didn't expect to see a lot but then the bush will always surprise you.

Our small and exclusive lodge, set in the big 5 Zululand Rhino Reserve,
offers a unique and personalised bush experience; enjoy game drives, guided walks, traditional bush cuisine and some of South Africa's finest wines.

Our Big 5 reserve is composed of a wide variety of habitat types and is home to a large diversity of animal and plant life. The Zululand Rhino Reserve was initially established as a part of World Wildlife Fund’s black rhino range expansion program. A population of these endangered rhinos were introduced to the game reserve and have been thriving ever since. At Rhino River Lodge, we are frequently privileged with sightings of black rhino on our game drives. We are now excitedly awaiting the arrival of a pride of magnificent lions that we hope will thrive as well as our rhino have.

Accommodation, facilities and cuisine: Our lodge offers guests comfortable and attractive accommodation. The log cabins are ideally suited to families and sleep up to five people. Each cabin features two bedrooms, a comfortable lounge, private verandah and boma area. Each luxurious en-suite double unit is set under a thatch roof with a private verandah overlooking the lodge grounds and riverbed below and is the perfect place for our guests to enjoy the tranquility of the African bush. The swimming pool area offers a welcome respite for guests looking to escape the midday heat and cool off or just to relax on the loungers under the thatch gazebo.

The lounge and dining room at Rhino River Lodge is set high on the banks of the Msunduze River amongst magnificent Sycamore Fig and Fever Trees overlooking the riverbed. A favourite with all of our guests is spending time in our boma enjoying an evening cocktail around the campfire, swapping stories of their adventures in the bush. These evenings are a magical part of every guest’s experience, taking in the smells of the campfire, the sounds of the African night, and the splendour of an unpolluted starry sky.

The Lodge offers hearty home style meals served in a relaxed and comfortable environment. Our kitchen specializes in offering cuisine that features traditional South African flavours, dishes, and cooking styles. The wine list has been hand-picked to provide our guests with a selection of some of the finest affordable wines that South Africa has to offer.

Activities: Rhino River Lodge offers morning and afternoon game drives, night drives, walking safaris and White Rhino Tracking. Our game viewing is some of the best in the world-renowned Zululand area and our birdlife is exceptional with over 350 species having been recorded.

The service was amazing and they really went out of their way to be hospitable. We had a monkey invasion in the room as one of the cleaning ladies had forgotten the windows open. They cleaned the room immediately and they gave us a discount when we checked out. The food was excellent. We will definitely return and recommend the place to friends.

It was an amazing and awesome experience that I will personally never forget. The food, the game drives, the staff in general was just amazing and friendly. I truly would recommend it for any couple or family to go and experience. It was beyond my expectations, really! Thank you.

Very friendly staff and nothing was too much trouble. Food was amazing and we were looked after like royalty! It was very quiet while we were there so we had Anand, the game ranger, to ourselves - he was extremely knowledgeable and there was nothing that he did not know! Janine was also kind and made sure that our needs were always satisfied. Thank you so much for making our stay in Africa a wonderful experience. We hope to return one day to see the lions!

We were a group of nine from Northern Ireland that stayed in Rhino Lodge over a weekend. The staff could not have done more to make our stay an enjoyable one. Issac is a gem, he took us on Safari, and we enjoyed good sightings of elephant, hippo and black rhino. Rooms and food were great.

It was great - relaxed but professional. A feeling of authenticity of being in the bush but with all the necessary creature comforts. Fantastic. Will visit again.
