Description

On the outskirts of Fouriesburg, close to the Lesotho border and deep in the heart of the Eastern Free State highlands of South Africa you will find a special guest farm, Mara Farm.

This beautiful homestead is in the final stages of conversion into comfortable, homely and affordable accommodation and events venue for groups and individual parties. Bookings for the main house are open for August 2011, but the first self-catering cottage accommodating four guests in two bedrooms is already available.

To make your life even easier, we offer a complete holiday shopping service. Avoid the rushing and stress of last minute holiday shopping. Send us your shopping list prior to arriving and let us take care of groceries, liquor and soft drinks, braai requirements, allowing you to save time, sanity and car-space.

Sally, your hostess, is a well-respected caterer and meals are available with prior arrangement for those not wishing to self-cater. Small functions, picnic baskets, themed dinners and parties are expertly catered. Sally invites you to contact her to discuss your menu requirements.

Mara overlooks the majestic Maluti Mountains and our view tower is the ideal spot to drink in the beauty of valleys and sandstone precipices over a champagne breakfast, or leisurely sundowners after a day of exploring this fascinating region.

Clarens, en-route to the Golden Gate National Park, is a 30 minute drive as is Bethlehem and Ficksburg, home of the Cherry Festival. The closest border post to Lesotho is just 8km away making Mara the perfect base for visitors to this fascinating mountain kingdom. The Afriski ski resort and Khatse Dam is an easy day trip for those not able to overnight in Lesotho. We look forward to welcoming you to our special corner of this remarkable country.

Lovely owners, well priced. Everything you need for a comfy, affordable weekend stay.
Interesting
Joan O'Connor, South Africa
07 September 2009
Colin was welcoming, interested, interesting and a mine of information re the area, its culture, and its people. Commendable. The owners were not present. Accommodation was adequate. The road to the establishment is more suited to a 4 x 4 rather than a modern-day sedan. The artwork on the advert is of the main house, not the "cottage" - a little misleading, I feel.
