Enjoyable


My husband, our teenage son and myself stayed for 2 nights while visiting Rhodes. Lovedale has a beautiful view and furniture, with clean, crisp linen. We had lovely walks and drives in mountains.

Description



Lovedale is a farm 5 km outside Rhodes. Rhodes is situated between the Witteberge and Drakensberg. Approximately 30km South of the Lesotho border. Rhodes has extremely good trout waters. All the tributaries from the surrounding mountains run down past the town all the way to the Orange. The so called Bell river which meets the Kraai is well known for its Wild Trout. The Bell flows through Lovedale, and there is approximately 2 km of river for prime trout fishing.Lovedale is ideal for the outdoor and adventurous. The mountainous area of the farm is ideal for hiking, quad bikes and mountain bikes.Other activities in and around our area are:Skiing - From May to August Tiffendell Ski Resort offers snow fun. The resort is 25km from Lovedale.Bird watching - Famous birds to look out for in our area are: The bearded vulture, oranje breasted rock jumper and the ground woodpecker. A vulture restaurant is in operation for those who want a close look and take pictures of the vultures feeding.Fly fishing - Trout fishing in our area is prime. Permits to fish on other water are available from the Wild Trout Association. Dams in the area offer a good alternative for fishing if rivers are down. Two professional Fly Fishing Guides live in town. They take beginners out for lessons, or the advanced for new fishing adventures and experiences.Hunting - Partridge hunting is a popular sport in winter. Professional hunting guides take hunters out for either buck or grey wing shooting.Horse rides - The Naudes are the horse people of Rhodes. The take visitors out on day trips, short trips or 3 day adventure rides. They live 2 km out of Rhodes.Rock paintings - The caves of this area boast with of the best restored rock art in the country. Guides can be arranged with a detailed history of the paintings and their meaning.Quad bike rides - Rhodes has a small quad bike track for the younger boys and beginners. Quad bike trails in the mountains are available to those who need a day out in the open space. Prior arrangements with farmers must be made.Arts and crafts - Rhodes has a lot of talent in terms of art. The Red Barn in town is a community upliftment project where locals make products out of wool. Fabric painting workshop just outside of Rhodes is also a "must visit". The art gallery in town offers antiques and what nots. Potters and quilters also add to the wide range of products see and buy in town.4 x 4 trails - this mountainous area is unique and ideal for the 4 x 4 fans. There are many roads, passes and trails to choose from for a real adrenalin rush.Camps - Rhodes is a popular destination for adventurous school camps. Caves serve as venue and is ideal for kids who love nature, or who would like to experience nature.Weddings - Rhodes is a romantic venue for a small wedding. The quaint stone church in the town is ideal ceremonies and a wide variety of venues are available for the function.
