Peaceful and relaxing,19 August 2008
A peaceful spot ideal as a base for walking in the mountains, or just vegging out for a while. Best to book the whole place and go as a group to enjoy dinner around the fire and so that the children could all find things to occupy themselves with peers.
Wonderful garden, clean and tidy and very relaxing.

Description
This magnificent private self-catering bush camp near Hoedspruit in the heart of Africa's Big Five Wildlife Country is set in lush indigenous tropical surroundings.
It is surrounded by humongous Jackal-Berry, Sycamore Fig, Knob Thorn, Bush Willows, Monkey Orange, Marula etc. This is the ultimate and ideal getaway holiday, to nature in a relaxed atmosphere where family or friends alike can experience breath-taking scenery, wild life, daring adventures or peace and quietness and everything the magic of the Lowveld and Escarpment can offer.
Here you can plan your own activities and unwind from day-to-day in an idyllic tropical paradise. For an affordable holiday in the bush, you will find no better alternative. It's here where time stops and life begins.
On arrival you will find that the lodge is situated in between the majestic Drakensberg escarpment and the constant flowing crystal clear Blyde River. The elevation difference from top to bottom is 1200m and lends itself to a diverse habitat that varies from fynbos to dense forest which in turn attracts an abundance of varied bird life.
Here you can hear and spot the ever so elusive Purple Crested Lourie, Knysna Lourie, Trumpeter Hornbill, Green Pigeon, Giant Eagle Owl, to name but a few of the over 500 bird species that have been recorded in this area by well known ornithologist Dr. Peter Milstein who lives nearby. It's a birders paradise.
Kwa Thabeng - Amenities Our self-catering bush camp is fully serviced and equipped and has 2 thatched chalets and a 2 bed roomed wooden cottage sleeping 8 people in total. Each unit has its own en-suite shower and toilet. The communal self-catering lapa / kitchen is equipped with 2 fridge / freezers, a gas stove and oven, a kettle, crockery and cutlery etc.
A smaller adjacent lapa serves as the dining and pub area where you can also do your braaing and outdoor cooking on a open fire. Potjies, braai grids, pots and cast iron pans are all available for you to use.
The only thing you need to bring is your food & drinks.
Sit back, relax, enjoy the scenery or have a splash in the sparkling pool. Patric and Liesbet will pamper you by cleaning your room, making your beds, preparing your table, making the fire, washing the dishes, cleaning your vegetables and bringing you your coffee or tee in bed.
The staff of Kwa Thabeng Bush Lodge will make your self-catering stay an unforgettable memory. You will walk away from here with a true African experience and like so many others you'll be back soon.
Attractions And there is so much more: Nyani Tribal Village, Khamai Reptile Park, Blyde Canyon Nature Reserve, Bombyx Mori Silk Farm, Mariepskop Radar Station with a breathtaking view over the lowveld, Modjadji Cycad Forest Reserve and the Rain Queen, Baobab Tree Pub, Amarula Lapa where the Amarula Cream liqueur is made, Monsoon Gallery. And then there is of course the Panorama Route with the Echo Caves, 3 Rondawels, Lowveld View, Wonder View, Bourke's Luck Potholes, Berlin Falls, Lisbon Falls, God's Window, the Rain Forrest, Pinnacle Rock, Panorama Falls and the Big Swing in Graskop, Sudwala Caves and Dinosaur Park, and numerous other waterfalls (Mac-Mac, Forest, Horse Shoe, Bridal Veil, Lone Creek, Sabie etc.)
Activities For the more adventures there are balloon rides, elephant rides, river rafting, microlight flights, abseiling, kayaking, quad biking, horse riding, boat cruises on the Blyde Dam and walking trails nearby.
Kruger National Park There is a numerous things to see and do here and you'll not have enough time on hand to experience them all. The Kruger National Park is a stones throw away from here and if you get up early in the morning, take a casual 40 min drive and arrive at Orpen gate at sunrise, you will be rewarded with some astounding animal life in the park. Lions, cheetah, elephants and rhino frequent the roads between Orpen and Satara. Take along your picnic basket and cooler box and stop at one of the open unfenced picnic sites and enjoy your breakfast.
Kapama Another well worthwhile visit is the Kapama Endangered Species Foundation which is one of the leading private research and breeding facilities for endangered species in the country. Visitors are guided through the research and breeding centre by experienced guides. They have more than 70 cheetahs including tame ones, cubs and the extremely beautiful and rare King Cheetah can also be seen. An introduction to the world of the 'Painted Wolf' or Wild Dog, a visit to the 'Vulture Restaurant' and other rare animals will conclude an information-packed tour.
Moholoholo A visit to the Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre is an unforgettable experience and is a must. A wide variety of birds and animals can be seen here, where Brian Jones and his team nurture the injured and orphaned, rehabilitating them for release back to the wild wherever possible. Those that are not so fortunate, due to the nature and extent of their injuries, are cared for in captivity to educate the many people who visit Moholoholo each year. Guided tours through the Centre brings visitors in close contact with both common and rare species such as the lovely Crowned and Martial eagles, Owls & Vultures as well as Serval, Duiker, Lions, Leopard and many other animals and birds.
