Live life out on a limb

Stay in one of our secluded Tree house. Watch the sun rise and set over Giants Castle in the Drakensberg from your sculptured bed, six meters up in a large oak tree. Tree houses inspire dreams, and represent freedom from adults and adulthood, from duties and responsibilities, from an earthbound perspective. If we can't fly with the birds we can at least nest with them. This country guesthouse with sloping lawns is the first stop on the Midlands Meander from the northern approach. Drive in through an avenue of splendid Sycamore Trees to the Guesthouse and Tea Garden. The garden provides quiet privacy for gentle walks, bird watching and views of the Drakensberg.

This is a scenic part of the Kwa-Zulu Natal Midlands, green in the spring, lush in the summer, with drifts of colourful leaves in the autumn, promising a crisp cold winter a time for log fires and old brown sherry.

Dine Alfresco on carefully prepared local produce in the summer or before a log fire in winter. Eat from sculpted furniture made from local woods. Dinners are available for guests on request with fresh produce of the day, no frozen or pre-cooked food all our Tree houses have small Fridges for wine and beer, kettles teas and coffees. All Breakfast are served in the Main Guest House

Fantasy Tree house it’s the only Tree house for a family. Three stories high, build in a cluster of trees.The Main bedroom with a glass door shower in the room that looks out onto the Drakensberg Mountains, a wooden hand- crafted double bed. On the middle level is a second room with beds for children also with a hand crafted wood door on to the deck. The bottom level has a lounge with a fire place. Sitting hammock to swing in front of the fire during the winter, then in the summer the hammock can be moved on to the patio, it comprises of two toilets, washing basins one on each level Jacuzzi bath Spa in the Sky , central heating with a fire place on the bottom level. It is very private and we also provide electric heaters and electric blankets during the colder months.

Our newest Tree house, built into an ancient Sycamore tree, with two levels. The doors & windows are hand made in the shape of branches, and are decorated with a variety of coloured beads. Beautifully Hand sculptured coloured flowers adoring the walls. There are two decks from which it is possible to enjoy sun downers and wonder at beauty of the Drakensberg, which it visible from Giants Castle to Champagne Castle. A large bedroom with a Queen sized bed, with a handmade quilt. We have a fire place in the bedroom for cold winter nights. On the top level, from your Jacuzzi Spa Bath and shower you are able to have a wonderful mountain view. The Faraway Tree houses is in a horse paddock and completely private. It sleeps two in a double bed, has a Jacuzzi bath Spa in the Sky, shower with doors that can open to make an indoor outdoor shower for the summer, toilet and basin. There are two decks that are held on to the tree with thick ropes so not to harm the wonderful tree. The Tree house gives a feeling of movement & sounds that a ship would make. From the decks one can hang the hammock high up into the body of the tree to laze and see the leaves or the stars at night. There is a kettle for tea or coffee and a small fridge to keep your champagne cold. Breakfast served in our main guest house on the patio high up with view of the rolling hills and the Drakensberg Mountain.

The wonderful quirkiness of the Fantasy Treehouse captured all of us on our arrival, particularly our three year old who loved exploring the nooks and crannies. Warm hospitality and a great meal sealed the deal. We will definitely return!

We stayed for one lovely night at Sycamore Avenue in the Faraway Treehouse. This is a special place and Bruce and Gloria were fabulous hosts - we shared a lovely evening meal with them and the following morning we were served a delicious breakfast. As a kid, I always wanted a treehouse but our space simply didn't allow for big trees in which to build one.
