Description
The town of Kleinmond lies within the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve, which supports over 1600 species of flora, known as fynbos, of which numerous are endemic. The name Kleinmond means "little mouth", and lies next to a lagoon at the small mouth of the Bot River, on a narrow strip of land. The Elephant Rock Guest House is located in the picturesque seaside village of Kleinmond, at the foot of the Kogelberg Mountains, and offer six spacious and comfortable rooms, each with en-suite bathroom.
On arrival, guests are led into the elegant lounge and dining room. With its beautiful paintings and chandelier, this part of the house has a wonderful ambiance. The rich wooden floors also add to its opulent atmosphere. Each of our comfortable rooms leads onto a beautiful, safe and secure courtyard. Adjacent to the courtyard is a splash pool. There is also a lovely covered patio with a big fireplace, which is perfect for enjoying a traditional South African barbecue. Every room is decorated with lovely antique furniture, and also boasts modern conveniences such as Wi-Fi Internet access, a TV, fridge, tea and coffee-making facilities, and hairdryer.
The Elephant Rock Guest House is named after the well-known rock formation just outside of Kleinmond, which depicts a profile of an elephant. It’s other claim to fame is that this historic building was once the old police station of Kleinmond, where the guests of a decade ago were prisoners who were locked in to stay on the premises. Today's guests, however, will not recognize the cells when they enjoy the comfort and beauty of these rooms.
With activities suited to all skill levels, a wonderful and fun day out is on offer in the reserve. A visit to the Harold Porter Wild Flower Reserve is highly recommended for nature enthusiasts, and additional activities to be enjoyed include excellent birding, wine tours, fishing, and star gazing. Kleinmond's herd of wild horses is also a special attraction. Just five minutes away, in Betty's Bay, you will find the penguin colony.
Kleinmond is also a golfer's paradise - not only does the village have it's own 9-hole course, but the award-winning Arabella Golf Club is a mere 10 km away, and the Hermanus Golf Club is also within easy reach.
