Calao Tented Camp

This was our first stay in a tented camp and wasnt sure what to expect. Nice relaxing place for a weekend. The owners are very helpfull and friendly. They came around atleast ones a day to ensure everything is good. The place is neat and quiet. We felt safe. I will go for sure. Magda du Toit

This tented camp was absolutely amazing! We really enjoyed our stay here. This is a very good way to feel the nature, the sounds and the life here. The couple that owns this place were very nice and told us a lot about the nature and the place. We recommend it strongly. Detta var en av de bästa upplevelserna någonsin!!!! Det franska paret som äger stället var oerhört välkomnande. Fräscht och rent i tältet, väldigt mycket "mitt i naturen" vilket var fantastiskt. Rekommenderas verkligen!

La nostra esperienza al Calao è stata fantastica, immersi completamente nella natura. Inoltre Jean Marc e Martine sono persone squisite. La tenda molto pulita, il cibo ottimo (ringraziamo la cuoca Manda. Da consigliare a chi cerca il gusto dell'avventura.

The camp was not well thought out but was charming in many ways. The washing up sink did not have a plug that fitted and anyway there was not hot water to that sink. It was winter and therefore dark early and there was minimal lighting in the cooking, eating area so cooking extremely awkward in the dark, probably not safe. The gas ran out and and only one burner on the stove worked. To be fair the owners responded rapidly and were charming but 1200 is a lot for a camp that needed a bit more attention to detail.

We have just spent the weekend at Calao, it was outstanding. Every little detail was attended to and everything we required was there. The location is central to everything and 30 mins drive from Orpen Gate. The camp is so peaceful and quiet and one could hear a variety of night time sounds from the nearby game farms. It was a wonderful way to recharge the batteries and I highly recommend it.
