Description

Bergplaas Resort is a camping and caravanning site located in the mountains between Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. The wide valley has views of Simonsberg, Bosmanskop, and Table Mountain, and has an open feeling making you feel near the ocean. It has a unique micro climate, making life outdoors a pleasure.

The current owners have taken care to restore the park in harmony with nature, while the balance between water and earth, stone and plants has been carefully recreated. This pleases animals and humans alike and ensures true relaxation in an area of outstanding beauty bordering on the Idas Valley dam and nature reserve.

Little Chapel is a double-storey thatch-roofed cottage with a little garden and is situated slightly away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the resort. Still close to the swimming pool, Little Chapel has a panoramic view and is ideally suited for the more private family. Little Chapel has one bedroom, one double bed and one single bed with a bath/shower room, kitchenette and dining room downstairs, and one bedroom, one double bed and one single bed upstairs.

Round Rise is a rondavel has specifically been designed to accommodate groups of people who wish to rough it. Ideally suited bachelor parties, bachelorette parties, boys and girls weekends out. Round Rise is kitted out with 10 camper beds, eight are more comfortable. There is no kitchenette as such for washing dishes. Dish washing will have to take place in the general wash-up area available to all campers, which is very close to Round Rise.

We were a group of seven good mates intent on having a rugged man camp away from city life. Bergplaas provided a quiet campsite in a beautiful setting. Particularly enjoyed hiking up to the dam. The site is close enough to town that we were able to provision ourselves once we arrived. In my experience Bergplaas is unique among campsites in providing ablution facilities that are both clean, well lit, and have large amounts of hot water! Would definitely return to camp with mates.
