The last Rand-friendly game lodge in Big-5, owned and managed by Dutch owners Corné and Miriam van Dongen. Amukela is located deep in the African bush, in the 40.000 ha Balule Private Nature Reserve which is home of the Big-5 and many other animals, and is now open to the Kruger Park. Offering affordable accommodation in Big 5- area this exclusive lodge is truly unique and a great place to discover the magic of South Africa! Experience the bush on a game drive and/or a bush-walk. All in Big-5 Balule Nature Reserve, under the guidance of a highly qualified field guide. Book early, as these activities are popular. Relax at the pool or on the terrace. Both have an open view on the waterhole where the animals come and go, all day long. During the evening the waterhole is lit by a spotlight. Dinner is served in our boma under the starlit sky, or in the lapa. Enjoy typical African meals such as Braai, boboti and potjiekos and sit at the campfire listening to the voices of Africa. Amukela is an exclusive lodge with 4 African style rondawels, each with air-con-unit. The rondawels have a king-size bed with mosquito net. The en-suite bathroom has a toilet, a shower and a basin. In our lounge we have several books and magazines about Africa. DSTV is also available. From the terrace as well as our swimming pool you have a view on the bush and our waterhole. Here you can relax, and watch the animals come and go all day. Blyde River Canyon: 50 minutes. Kruger Park: 45 minutes. Cheetah Breeding Project: 35 minutes. Moholoholo Rehabilitation Centre: 35 minutes. Khamai Reptile Park: 30 minutes. Rates until 31 December 2008: R460 per person per night sharing. Rates from 1 January 2009 - 31 December 2010: R595 per person per night sharing. R645 per person per night single. R275 per child - 12, sharing the parents room. All rates include dinner and breakfast. Toddlers -2 stay for free. A conservation fee (R60 per vehicle) is payable when entering the Balule NR (once off).
