The last rand-friendly game lodge in Big 5. Amukela Game Lodge is located in the Balule Big 5 Private Nature Reserve which is incorporated in the Greater Kruger Park. Amukela Game Lodge was built in 2004 by the Dutch owners Miriam and Corné van Dongen. Only 20 minutes from Hoedspruit, this unique lodge offers an African bush experience against affordable rates.

Amukela is an exclusive lodge with four African-style rondawels, accommodating maximum eight guests. Each rondawels has a king-size bed with mosquito net and air-conditioning. The en-suite bathroom has a toilet, shower and a basin. On request we can make extra beds for children. Breakfast is served in the main building, where you also find the lounge. We have satellite TV/DStv as well as magazines and books.

From both the terrace and our swimming pool you have a view on the bush. In the evening enjoy the boma-dinners, weather dependent, under the breathtaking stars. Sit around the campfire and listen to the voices of Africa. From the star deck we gladly inform you about the planets, stars, nebula's and more. When possible we set-up our 10 Dobsonian sky watcher telescope.

In the vicinity of Amukela are a lot of interesting places to visit both for a full day or just a couple of hours. This makes our lodge a great place to stay several days or even weeks. Whether you want to go on your own, or do an organized trip, we can assist where possible. Elephant back safari. On the back of an Elephant you discover the bush from a different view. Conducted at Kapama reserve. We can book this safari for you.

Bush walk. Greet a new day in the bush, together with an armed and qualified nature guide. Explore the fascinating nature in Africa by foot, in an easy going pace. Learn about animal tracks and behaviour, trees and bushes with medicinal properties and much more. Game drive in an open jeep you go out in the bush searching for the animals, accompanied by an experienced field guide.

Pre-bookings for those activities are essential. The world-renowned Kruger National Park is a must. Explore this wild and vast nature area in your own vehicle. Enter at the Orpen-gate approximately 50 minutes and take after 27 km. the dirt road via Mudzadzeni picnic-spot to Satara. Visit the Elephants museum in Letaba, or go to Mopani camp, which is a very scenic drive. From Amukela to the Phalaborwa gate is about 40 minutes drive. We gladly advise you about the nicest routes in the park.

In the Hoedspruit area are several wildlife rehabilitation centers, Cheetah Breeding Project here they breed with cheetahs, which are an endangered species. In an open safari-jeep you drive past the enclosures, the guide will give you information.

Moholoholo Rehabilitation Centre, known from National Geographic Channel, this rehabilitation center has a diversity of birds of prey and also lions, wild dogs, hyena's, cheetah's, a leopard and a honey badger. Discover the beauties of the third largest Canyon in the world, with several scenic views as well as seven different falls. Also a boat trip on the Blyderiverdam is possible or viewing the game on horseback. There is a Reptile park and possibilities to make an ultra-light flight. Indeed there is a lot to explore in the Lowveld.
