Welgekozen Country Lodge is set on 8 hectors of land ½ kilometre from the historic town of Piet Retief close to the Swaziland Border. The approach to the lodge is through an avenue of oak trees to the elegant Cape Dutch building. Our venue boasts an ambiance of tranquillity in its country surroundings and can accommodate a variety of tastes. The house was build by the son of General Kemp a Boer war general.

Travelling from the Kruger Park, Durban or Johannesburg it makes an ideal stopover for tourists. Being centrally situated for Swaziland, Ermelo and Pongola it is an ideal town for Reps to stay.

Welgekozen Country lodge is a Traditional Cape Dutch Property with wooden Floors, windows and doors. It is Rectangular in shape with a central tiled courtyard. All set in Park Like gardens with lots of mature English oak trees, some over 60 years old.

The lodge offers:
- 10 individually decorated double bed rooms with either showers or baths
- Tea and coffee facilities in every room

- Superb English or continental breakfast

The lodge is wonderful, with friendly staff and all required amenities available. I definitely recommend it if you need to stay in Piet Retief.

This was the first stop on a family trip to the eastern game reserves and the coast. After an all night flight and a long drive made worse by all the roadworks, we arrived rather frazzled. But the owner and his staff were so kind, the place absolutely beautiful, with very comfortable rooms and secure parking, sensible recommendations for dinner for our young children, and a delicious breakfast. We couldn't have asked for more. Thank you!

We had a very pleasant experience and will make sure we tell all our friends, one of the best guesthouses around. The chef might need a slight bit more experience, the dinner was well presented but needed a bit more taste.
