Walkabout Estate offers you a rustic and private farm stay in a scenic and mountainous area. We farm with cows, chickens and pigs and guests are free to roam around and enjoy farm-life. Depending on the season, farm-fresh products as eggs, chicken, fruit and wood are available. Walkabout Estate can be recommended as a good base from which you can explore the Eastern Free State as well as Lesotho. The Maluti mountains, the Afriski ski slopes and Katse Dam are easy accessible from Ficksburg. Walkabout Estate is a tranquil place ideal for a relaxing getaway in a rural environment far away from the hustle and bustle. Bring your fishing rod and catch some carp or black bass.
Sandstone, thatched cottage: Luxurious and fully-equipped for self-catering, sleeping 6. One double bed in the bedroom, 2 single beds and a double sleeper couch (for children) on the loft. Full bathroom, shaded parking, indoor fireplace/braai. It has DSTV (bring own card) and Hi-Fi. The kitchen is fully equipped with fridge/freezer, 4 plate stove/oven, microwave etc. There is a sunny wooden deck with breathtaking views and a spacious thatched braai lapa. Very private setting. North facing and sunny during winter. Self Catering Unit: A large room in the sandstone farmhouse with fireplace and TV. Private entrance. Kitchenette fully equipped for self catering. Sleeping 4 (One double and one bunk bed). Private bathroom en-suite with toilet, basin and bath. Outdoor braai-facilities on terrace in park-like garden. Free coffee and tea. Dinner and breakfast only available by arrangement. All bedding and towels supplied. Extra blankets and electric blankets will be provided in winter. Guests can make their own arrangement with us for cleaning and household chores.
