Vuma Hills Tented Camp

Description

Vuma Hills Tented Camp is perched above the trees streches over the seemingly endless wilderness south west of Mikumi National Park.

Your spacious and comfortable tent is one of sixteen, all with rather old fashioned colonial décor on raised wooden platforms overlooking the floodplain below. Sleeping under canvas at Vuma is a far cry from the discomfort usually associated with camping. Complete with shaded wooden veranda at the front and en-suite bathroom, shower only, facilities at the back, each tent has a double and a single bed and the tents are mosquito proof. All the water is solar heated.

Electricity is provided by generator and there are lights and sockets in each tent from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 18:30 to 22:00. A complimentary laundry service is available to guests and tea and coffee are available on request. Mobile phones will work at Mikumi, depending on the network arrangements.

The dining room overlooks the swimming pool creating an oasis of tranquility in the dusty hot climate of the lowlands in which guests can savour the varied and well-prepared meals cooked by the camp chefs. Decaffeinated coffee is not readily available in Tanzania, so if required it is preferable to bring some with you.

All game drives around the park are done in open 4WD vehicles. The game drives are led by a trained, experienced English speaking guide who will ensure that you get the most out of every safari. Trek under the rainforest canopy with it's endemic birds and primates to emerge at Sanje Waterfalls with breathtaking views over the Rift Valley below.

Mikumi National Park boasts the highest game density in the entire conservation area. The camp is accessible by tarmac road and is a four-hour drive from Dar es Salaam. Guests can also travel by air and scheduled flights are available from Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar. Road transfers can be arranged when booking.

'Vuma' translated from Kiswahili means "a good rumour that is spread with the blowing wind". Now a reality rather than just a rumour, it is the ideal place to evoke the true spirit of Africa.
