The only problem was that there was a lot of noise from other guests. Walls seem to be very thin. The first night I could clearly hear other guests talking loudly in their room and lounge area outside my room. Second day there with guests with very noisy kids. Could be heard from my room even though they were outside on the ground floor. Kids were also running around making noise & shouting in the sitting area downstairs when I was trying to work & just having a sundowner with rel ... more

Nestled in the foothills of the Western Cape's magnificent Franschhoek Mountains is a newly renovated boutique Guest House set on 35 hectares of wine farm in the Franschhoek Winelands. Only minutes from the centre of the Cape's culinary capital, lies Val d'Or where the welcome is warm, the tranquility tangible and the ambiance geared to your comfort.
Val d'Or Guest House and Self-Catering is one of Franschhoek's most luxurious places to stay; offering easy access to all of Franschhoek’s many attractions e.g. wine estates, cheese tasting, trout fishing, mountain biking, chocolate tasting, horse riding, hiking trails, golf estates (Boschenmeer, Pearl Valley, De Zalze, Spier, Erinvale).
Val d’Or offers both guest house and self-catering accommodation. All rooms and suites have DStv, DVD player, safe, robes, slippers, hair dryer, tea/coffee making facilities, bar fridge, plus under floor heating and air-conditioners to ensure your comfort all year round. Each room or suite has its own patio offering different views of the swimming pool, beautiful gardens, ornamental dams and surrounding mountains.
The self-catering units have the same four star standard and facilities with breathtaking views and are fully fitted and serviced daily. A Wi-Fi hot spot is available in the Barn House. Swimming towels are provided and smoking is allowed outside on the terrace or on your patio.
