Enjoyed

We had a very nice time enjoying the beautiful Damaraland and we were lucky to see some desert elephants. The lodge is comfortable and the staff is helpful and friendly. Unfortunately every evening it becomes a very crowded and busy place after arrival of the tourist busses.

Memorable

Appreciated the efforts made to minimise impact on environment. Enjoyed very much the informative evening scenic drive with Siggy, and the flight over the skeleton coast with John? Comfortable accommodation, and quality food.
Dugald McLaren, Australia - 12 November 2006

Description

The Twyfelfontein area, being a very vulnerable and delicate ecosystem, is renowned for some of the best examples of Bushman paintings and Rock Engravings in Southern Africa.

Twyfelfontein Country Lodge is situated 100 km's west of Khorixas, Damaraland, Namibia. Is 260 km's north-northeast of Henties Bay, and 5 km's from historic rock-art site.

Walking, Day Scenic Drives, Scenic Flights, Swimming Pool.

Interesting rock formations and the remainder of prehistoric volcanic action can be seen among the most prominent geographic features including the Organ Pipes, Burnt Mountain, Doros Crater and the Petrified Forest. The fauna and flora of Damaraland is typical of the Pro-Namib region and plant species include the magnificent Welwitschia, Moringa and a variety of the Commiphora species. The Desert adapted Elephant, Rhinoceros, Giraffe, Springbok, and Ostrich include some of the wildlife which can be found living in total harmony with the community and the communal farming activities of the Uibasen Twyfelfontein Conservancy.

Twyfelfontein boasts 56 en-suite double rooms, reception, lounge, curio shop, open dining room, bar and swimming pool. In construction utmost care was taken to reduce the visual impact on the environment and to blend into the mountainside with the use of thatch roofs, natural stone and paint colors toning in with the surrounding rock formations.

Day excursions may include flights over the area by small plane, walks, and/or guided safaris into the surrounds. Beautiful sunsets and endless vistas relaxes body, mind and spirit. Among the local fauna, none is more fascinating than the elusive desert-adapted elephant, Loxodonta africana, which permanently occupies the desert during the driest periods. These elephants walk up to 130 kilometres between water holes, covering up to 70km a day and sometimes drinking only every fourth day.

Children welcome under parents supervision.
