Tsika Island Canoeing Camp

Tsika Island Canoeing Camp is set in the middle of the Zambezi River, approximately 30 to 35 km upstream of Chongwe, between Mana Pools National Park in Zimbabwe and the village of Mugurameno in Zambia. The camp is situated on the south side of the island which has a mixture of albida groves and reeded channels, with a sandy plain to the north.

We have three simple rooms allowing a maximum of 12 guests, as you will be able to pitch tents or use the lounge structure with bed rolls and mosquito nets. We have built open ferro structures under village thatch to complement the island bush experience, with coco poles securing the windows and beds set under full walk-in mosquito nets. The en-suite bathrooms are fully private with running water and bucket showers. Lights in the rooms are provided by solar panels.

The dining space is built to the same design offering a large covered room with local village artefacts decorating the bar and serving areas, with a lawn in front offering the traditional campfire and comfortable lounge chairs. The kitchen is situated behind the dining area and offers a gas stove, fridge and freezer.

Chongwe Safari’s staff will be present during your stay, providing wood for fires, heating water for showers, general cleaning and security for you and your possessions. Housekeepers will maintain the chalets, but campers will be responsible for their tents. Staff will have VHF radio contact with Chongwe River Camp at all times. There is cell phone signal available on the island if you have a roaming SIM with Zimbabwe coverage.

Tsika Island is totally wild and we do have animals coming into the camp. Whilst we have no predators on the island, elephant, buffalo, hippo and crocodile may be present, as well as smaller mammals and of course reptiles and snakes. We respectfully request that no-one comes within reach of the river bank, enters the river or walks outside the confines of the camp boundaries without due care. It is important to always be aware of your surroundings while you are walking around so that you lessen the chance of bumping into any wild animals.
