Thunzi Bush Lodge

Description

Thunzi in isiXhosa, a local African language, means 'in the shade', describing a typical lazy afternoon in the forest valley. This tranquil sanctuary of coastal forest can be found in the malaria-free Eastern Cape Province, nestled at the base of a 44-hectare private valley overlooking the pristine and lush De Stades River wetland.

Conveniently situated en-route to Cape Town, only 25 km from the friendly city of Port Elizabeth and 2 km from the untouched Maitland beach, perfectly positions Thunzi as a charming natural destination to complete a scenic Garden Route adventure. This unforgettable property reflects the magic of Africa ensuring supreme relaxation, superior accommodation, friendly hospitality, refined cuisine and an endless source of interesting activities.

Combining an expression of natural design ideas gathered from years of travel in Africa by the owners Mark and Trenwyth Pledger, resulted in the creation of a collection of charming natural wooden chalets merging luxury, supreme style, spaciousness and comfort for the enthusiastic nature lover. Let your soul revitalize with the peaceful sounds of the African bush in the quiet privacy of one of these luxury chalets, each with its own private forest deck and magical view of the wetland and forest. All chalets are exquisitely furnished comprising full bathrooms with heated towel rails, infrared heaters, lounges with tea and coffee facilities, biscuits and a fully stocked minibar. Added extras for your convenience include remote controlled ceiling fans, complimentary mineral water, chocolates, hairdryers and laundry facilities.

Traditional South African cuisine are prepared and served by Betty, our in-house Xhosa cook. We do our best to source the freshest ingredients as well as organic vegetables and meat, which are grown in the countryside. All breakfasts are hearty South African breakfasts accompanied by freshly baked scones or muffins each morning, a fresh fruit platter, a variety of wholesome cereals, local creamy yogurt and various flavours of filter coffee. Try our private dining experience in our forest clearing where you will be exclusively served seated near a cosy fire surrounded by burning lanterns. While gazing at the stars and Milkwood canopy, sounds of frogs and wood owls evoke a special evening feeling known as an absolute mind unwind.

Fantastic
Richard Towson, United States of America

With only 3 chalets you feel like the staff is there just for you. My 18 and 21 year old probably did not appreciate how amazing it was to have personal attention like we received at Thunzi. The chalet ,the setting, the pool and the food was the best on our trip.

Thunzi Bush Lodge was wonderful. Great setting and very relaxing. The pool area is fantastic. Lovely to have meals cooked for you in the evening. Could have done with a bit more guidance when we first arrived..... also needs airconditioning
Fantastic
Grant Lloyd, South Africa

It brought the family back to basics, not having a TV. We did things we would not normally do at home. The food was loved by the whole family and we left being very proud of being South Africans in such a fantastic area. The rooms were superb and upmarket. Staff was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. Thanks a million.
Just a wonderful stay....

Extremely friendly and helpful staff, particularly the ladies at the reception. Nothing was too much for them. Also the accommodation was just great and everything to our satisfaction. We would definitely use Thunzi Bush Lodge again whenever we come back to SA.
The perfect place to unwind

We chose Thunzi for its isolation for the last 2 days of our holiday. The accommodation, the service and the monkeys were all great! We would happily stay here again.
