Description

Against the magnificent backdrop of the Drakensberg Mountains and its secluded valleys, in the lee of the famous hill, Spioenkop, and snugly secluded on 1000 ha of private farm land, lies Three Tree Hill Lodge. Spectacular scenery, locally grown food, exquisite linen and superb hosts make Three Trees Lodge the ideal environment in which to escape and unwind.

Passionate owners and managers, Simon and Cheryl Blackburn continue the work of visionaries and founders of Three Trees, Andrew Ardington and the late David Rattray, which is bringing to vivid life the bloody battles and ongoing struggles between the British and the Boers which dominated the landscape and area at the turn of the 18th century. Both Simon and Cheryl are qualified mountain and safari guides, and have brought many additional facets and dimensions to Three Tree Hill lodge from its early days under Andrew and David.

Their philosophy for Three Trees is to involve the local community with sustainable employment, goods & services procurement, recycling projects, health education & school support. Community Development & Environmental Ecology is the primary focus whilst the long term vision is to develop the area into a sustainable wildlife destination.

The TGCSA four star graded lodge, consists of 6 standard luxury twin suites, and a 2-bedroomed family suite, which is situated in close proximity to the main dining facility and in the opposite direction to the other guest suites. It has a master bedroom en-suite, a children’s room with a separate toilet and a small kitchenette.

All bedrooms are equipped with all the modern conveniences and all beds are fitted with 100% cotton percale linen adding to your comfort. Private Veranda’s accompany each bedroom and each bathroom, with heated towel rails, luxury soaps and amenities and both bath and shower sport an amazing view of the Spoinkop valley from the bath itself.

The main living area has an open-plan design, with four sets of large double doors leading onto the veranda. The result is a flowing space, where you can relax on a comfy chair, read in the afternoon sun and enjoy convivial dinners. In the winter an open log fire and "Dover" coal stove create a welcoming environment.

Meals are often served outside where one can soak up the views while enjoying the exquisite local cuisine – a fusion of home and modern flavours, dining is a family affair. Buffet style breakfast and lunches and 3 course plated dinners will ensure that taste buds are stimulated and gastronomic satisfaction is guaranteed. A viewing deck and secluded swimming pool offer complete relaxation in a truly magnificent African setting.

So weather heading off to explore the famous battle fields of the area or working off the hearty breakfast on a mountain bike, or simply just soaking up the warm African sun at the pool, Three Tree Hill provides the discerning traveller with true African hospitality and amazing adventures never to be forgotten.
