The Clarens Country House is the newest lifestyle option in Clarens’s exceptional portfolio of weekend getaways. Situated on the secure and scenic Clarens Golf and Trout Estate, this century-old stone sheep shed has been completely remodelled as a luxury self-catering guest house.

With half-metre thick sandstone walls, The Clarens Country House is a cool retreat in summer and a cosy refuge from the invigorating winters. The country house offers four self-catering apartments named Ouhout, Wildeals, Bosman and the Shepherd’s Loft. With a 20 m fully glazed veranda commanding rolling lawns and 360 degree views, this is the ideal place for ultimate relaxation. The country house is a mere five-minute walk from the village square which offers some of the best shopping, restaurants and art galleries in the country.

Oom Schalk’s se Stoep runs the length of The Clarens Country House and provides shared living space for relaxation and alfresco dining in summer, or snug conversation around two vintage wood burning stoves in winter. The Ouhout, Bosman and Wildeals Suites all open directly onto the stoep which can be opened to catch the summer breeze or zipped up tight when the temperature drops. It is perfect for parties, bridge playing or afternoon naps.

Character: The work of Herman Charles Bosman abounds in the art of the Illustrated Bosman which is the work of Owner Peter Badcock-Walters. The Bosman Suite has complimentary Jerepigo sherry, and the Oom Schalk Lourens lends his name to our Stoep.

Wellness & Spa: We have a nutritionist and wellness therapist who use our tranquil setting to practice the healing arts.

Family: The Estate has numerous playgrounds and a folly path leading to some of the most panoramic spots in the Clarens area.

Golf: The property is situated in the Clarens Golf and Trout Estate, and we offer mid-week golf specials, with discounted rates and green fees.

Great Outdoors: On the foot of Mount Horeb The Clarens Country House is perfect as a point of departure for mountain exploration and adventure.

We stayed in the Shepard's Loft at the Clarens Country House. As soon as we entered the door, my wife and I fell in love with the place! Very cosy and neat! The Shepard's Loft is very private, with it's own entrance and private parking! Toni seems to know everyone, and organised us discounts and coupons at the local establishments! We received a huge discount at the golf course! We really enjoyed our stay, and would recommend The Clarens Country House to anyone!
