Thabina Eco Lodge

Description

Thabina Eco Lodge is nestled in the mountains between the Lekgalameetse and Wolkberg nature reserves. This 1510 ha reserve is located about 40 km from Tzaneen and there is a 4×4 track giving access to the heart of the reserve. The Thabina Dam is where the Thabina Eco Lodge is situated.

There are four thatched and canvas Chalets with en-suite ablution facilities, fully equipped kitchens and spacious lounge and dining areas. They are close to the edge of the dam with beautiful views. The lodge is completely self-catering though bedding, cooking equipment, crockery and cutlery are all provided. A local cleaning lady is available to assist with washing dishes and cleaning rooms at a daily rate.

Paraffin for the lamps and gas for the geysers, stove, fridge and freezer are supplied. A petrol generator is used for filling the water tank and is also operational only to supply electricity to a pressure pump when all the showers are used.

Please bring your own firelighters, wood charcoal, dishwashing liquid, toiletries, toilet paper, spare torch batteries, food and drinks. The nearest shopping centre at Maake, where there are several chain stores, is 15 km away but it takes a 30-minute drive to get there. Therefore be prepared and bring everything you might need.

Several cool streams tumble from the misty peaks of the Wolkberg Mountains and find their way through pristine grasslands and indigenous forests into the Thabina Dam. The Wolkberg Wilderness area is the largest wilderness area open to the general public in South Africa and there are many opportunities to fish, hike, climb the hills and canoe on the dam or mountain bike through the neighbouring countryside.
