Description

Approximately 2000 million years ago, a meteorite of approximately 10 km in diameter collided with the Earth, causing the biggest and oldest impact site. Thabela Thabeng lies in the midst of this World Heritage Site, nestled in between the mountains and Vaal River only 100 km from Johannesburg.

Thabela Thabeng means “Be happy in the mountains”. This is advice that is not hard to follow at this beautiful resort. The luxury chalets nestle deep in the heart of the mountains. Each chalet has a balcony with breathtaking views, fireplaces and there is a cosy lapa. They are fully equipped for self-catering. The youth hostel and silo are ideal for large groups and they also have self-catering facilities.

Historical & Cultural: Geologists and students from over the world come to this World Heritage Site to study and explore. Recent excavations have revealed interesting facts.

Wedding Venues: Exclusive weddings are held here for children of nature that prefer to be wed in the mountains under a blue sky or when the sun sets in the West. Groups not bigger than 40. More info on request.

At Plumbago we saw dassies climb trees and play within arms reach of our window - very cool.

We had an awesome time at Thabela Thabeng. A true piece of Africa. The baboons and monkeys entertained us and the dassies were a rare experience for our German guests. The chalet is beautifully equipped with all that one might need. All in all it was a wonderful experience. Thanks for the 5 Star service from SafariNow. Our arrangements were effortless!

The whole place is in need of a makeover. There are many problems with the chalet we had. The housekeeping is not up to standerd. We travel a lot so this was a eye opener. The pool is not a + piont. The owners and staff are friendly but they have a lot to learn. I can at this stage not recommend them to any body. There website is misleading, you can not depend on the website for reliable information.

Ons verblyf by Thabela Thabeng was absoluut uit die boonste rakke. Dit was 'n heerlike wegbreek vir my en my man en volgende keer bespreek ek die groter eenheid en vat my hele familie saam. Baie dankie vir die gasvryheid en goeie diens. Our stay at Thabela Thabeng was outstanding. It was a fun breakaway for my husband and I and next time I am bringing the whole family. Thank you for the hospitality and the good service.
