Sundown Terrace

Description

Sundown Terrace is situated in the town of Heidelberg which lies just off the N3 highway, roughly 50 km outside of Johannesburg at the foot of the Suikerbosrand. This lovely apartment offers beautiful views from the terraces of the town, farms and Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve. The unit is fully equipped for self-catering and has all that is needed for a relaxed holiday.

All the rooms are furnished with double beds and have en-suite bathrooms. The main bedroom has a slipper bath and double shower in its en-suite bathroom, and also features a private balcony with a view of the pool and town. The kitchen is equipped with a microwave, fridge, gas stove, cutlery and crockery, while the separate scullery contains a washing machine as well as a tumble dryer. A dining area for six people is provided and the lounge contains a fireplace and a TV with DStv. A heated pool is located on the wooden deck, with sun loungers and views of the town and Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve. Safe and covered parking for four cars are also provided.

Guests can also visit one of two reserves in the area. The Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve is a fair size nature reserve that supports a large variety of plant and animal species. Vegetation types range from open grassland on hillsides and plains to wooded gorges and acacia woodland, marshland, fynbos, and sugar bush, which is spread throughout the reserve. Mammal species include mountain reedbuck and predators such as the cheetah, brown hyena and smaller species roam this vast sanctuary. Over 200 South African birds can also be observed here and a network of hiking trails, covering approximately 66 km in total, allows visitors to get a closer look at the diversity of plant and animal life.

The Marievale Bird Sanctuary lies north east of Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve and supports up to 65 different water bird species and over 3,500 birds, especially during summer months. For those who are interested in airplanes, the Heidelberg cemetery is home to the grave of Count Heinrich von Zeppelin, the uncle of the inventor of the airship.
