Description

Stompdrift Dam Resort and Camping can be found on the biggest dam in the Klein Karoo, with a 25 km circumference. We are nestled between the Swartberg and Kamanassie Mountain Ranges. Situated adjacent to Meiringspoort, it is surrounded by pristine hills and unspoilt vegetation and is home to more than 2 500 plant species and 50 bird species.

The resort offers self-catering cottages, a campsite and a lapa, which is available to hire for functions. Breakfast and dinner is available by prior arrangement. All four chalets have an African Safari character and are equipped with an en-suite bathroom, a fan and a fully-equipped kitchenette with fridge, washbasin, microwave oven, kettle, crockery. Clean duvets are supplied. The private wooden deck under the trees is furnished with deck chairs and there is an enclosed private lapa with a braai area.

The Werfhoender Safari Camp is nestled among trees and consists of four separate sleeping huts. Each hut has two single beds and a cosy balcony. An additional sleeping balcony for three can be found above the kitchen and has a typical safari bathroom with a traditional “donkey” hot water system. The large communal hut has a lounge, kitchenette with fridge, washbasin, hot plates, kettle, tin cups and plates for 12. The lounge flows onto a large wooden deck with a private lapa and a “trekpad-braai”. The sleeping huts can also be hired separately.

The camping site overlooks the dam and consists of three lawn-covered terraces, shady trees and braai areas. The two ablution blocks have showers only and power points are shared between the campers. A charge of R50 per person is applicable for additional people.

Overlooking the dam, the Aqua Bush Restaurant is a brilliant venue for wedding receptions, year-end functions, family get-togethers and other special events that require a really memorable venue. It seats up to 150 people without the dance floor and is equipped with a unique wooden bar area, a sound system and stage, a well-equipped kitchen and bathrooms.

Educational adventure and nature camps are also held at Stompdrift Dam Resort and Camping and groups ranging from 20 to 100 can be accommodated. Lectures on and practical experience in nature, survival excursions in nature and navigation, stargazing and night hikes are only a few of the programmes that are provided.

Guests can choose from kayaking, swimming, angling, water skiing and other water sports. The area is also wonderful for birdwatching with over 50 species to be seen. In the surrounding areas guests can go rock jumping, mountain biking and swimming at the Great Waterfall in Meiringspoort. Visiting the Cango Caves, Cango Wildlife Ranch, and the Ostrich Show
Farms is an absolute must. Guests can also enjoy arts and crafts and wine tasting in the area.
