Description

At the historic farm Nooitgedacht, on the banks of the Vaal river, 20km from Potchefstroom in the well known Vredefort dome world heritage area, you can wake up in the morning with the call of the fish eagle and really get peace of mind away from the city rush to enjoy the beautiful African nature.

GP and Hesmé Schoeman are the proud owners of this beautiful family farm that belongs to the Schoeman family since 1856. Some of the original buildings survived the test of time and the war of 1899 to 1902, when nearly every building in the old Transvaal and Free state was burned down. Evidence of the war can be seen in the cellar where shrapnel damaged the ceiling and roof. The foundations of the old house that was burned down by the British troops can also be seen. The old waenhuis is one of the oldest buildings, if not the oldest, in the region and dates from the early pioneer time. The original klipkraal, landmuur and cemetery can also be seen.

There are ruins of iron age kraals as well as the Amazon mine where gold was mined from 1886. The farm is well known for superb yellow fish waters. To catch this indigenous fish on a fly, is an experience every enthusiast must get. On the farm there is also hiking routes and ideal routes for jogging and mountain bikes. Close to the farm you can go for game viewing, river rafting as well as a lot of other activities that are available.

Check-In  03:00 PM   Check-Out 11:00 AM

Location: If you'd like to experience a total private setting in a World Heritage Site, look no further.

Great Outdoors: You can try our walking trail up a gorge or river raft down the Vaal river.

Historical & Cultural: The old waenhuis and opstal survived the anguish of the Anglo Boer War. Hidden between the hills the ruins of earlier inhabitants still remained after they've been driven out in the early 1800's by Shaka's impi.

Outstanding Views: While sitting on Kruisbessie's spacious deck or at the lapa at Kollegerus, you can watch the Vaal river flowing right past you, and if you look back, you'll see a collection of beautiful bushes and trees beneath the hillside.

Amazing
Debbie Alberts, South Africa

It was amazing. Worth the distance. It gives one time to get a fresh perspective on life, be it personal or work related. I will most definitely strive to go back at least once a year. Thank you for your wonderful hospitality.

This is a beautiful place, but you must go in summer to enjoy it more. We will be back soon.

We had a truly lovely time, although next time we'll go in summer when we can enjoy the outdoors and the river to the fullest. We stayed in Doppruim and the house had everything we needed.

We really enjoyed our stay. So close to nature. The little house is simple, but very beautiful. Will definitely go back.

We were a group of 11 friends and colleagues that enjoyed the weekend at Schoemanshof in kruisbessie. The view was great, the area was calm and it is a great place to go and just relax. I would recommend it to groups of friends or family between 10 and 14 people.
