Charming and quaint,17 June 2008
We had a lovely time. Food was good, the people were extremely friendly and very helpful and always trying to make us feel comfortable. I loved the bar area - the best I have seen. My girlfriend loved the cats and dogs that made the odd appearance now and again - all in all, we had a good time. Thank you.

Description
Sandford Park …Started life as a coach house
Nestled at the foothills of the uKhahlama - Drakensberg Mountains, now a proclaimed World Heritage Site - a century old coach house nestles peacefully amid natural springs and streams.
Dating back to 1850, Sandford Park started its life as a coach house offering food and shelter for pioneers carving a road between KwaZulu - Natal and the Transvaal. A Battle ground of fierce and bloody conflicts between Boer and British troops for control of land and water, home for a British garrison sent to relieve the town of Ladysmith, causing the historical battle of Spioenkop, Sandford survived almost complete obliteration. Today, Sandford Park Country Hotel has been restored to a place of complete relaxation and tranquility.
A two-and-a-half hour drive from Durban and three-and-a-half hours from Johannesburg on a tarred road, Sandford is in a perfect position to explore the Berg.
Sandford is equidistant to all major attractions such as the Royal National Park, Amphitheatre, Spioenkop Nature Reserve, Cathedral Peak and all major Battlefield sites. Sandford is also the closest hotel to the N3 national road and also R74, which is the scenic route over Oliviershoek Pass connecting KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State granting easy accessibility. Due to its perfect location one can get a panoramic view of the Berg from Champagne Castle on your left and the Amphitheatre to our right.
The intimate atmosphere at Sandford is such an important aspect – there are no TV’s in the room, rather management has created the lounge for a more intimate environment that brings absolute peace to those using it.
The decor is reminiscent of an age gone by; tranquility nourishes the soul and enhances the memory of time visited. GUESTS have a choice of 26 traditional rooms, all with upcountry cottage décor and all under thatch - being warm in winter and cool in summer. Or we have 24 new ‘executive’ rooms, all with the modern features, private patios, and each with an amazing view of the Berg.
The Restaurant, which has a very cozy atmosphere, is where guests spend quite some time and we have endeavoured to make it an all round experience, good food, good decor and quality music.
The pub is known by many in the trade as the 'best in the Berg' with its great decor and design, not to mention the memorabilia covering the walls. Whether it is in the winter with the log fire crackling, or in the summer, a guest is guaranteed a very pleasant visit.
Conference and Wedding facilities as well as a host of activities on offer such as, swimming, croquet, badminton, volleyball .Our dam, which is stocked with Florida Bass, is 4 hectares in extent and a tremendous amount of enjoyment is had with the fishing, canoeing and boating, and of course with all this water and trees around, bird watching is high on many visitors list of which we boast over 80 different species.
There are no self catering facilities & no chalets on these premises.
