Description

Rougham Farm is based in the majestic Southern Drakensberg Mountains. The dry stone walls that grace the hills of Rougham give a highland feel while the river meanders along the valley of the farm. Be “wowed” by the splendid evening sunsets followed by spectacular starlit nights.

Rougham Farm offers two self-catering cottages, three campsites, two-sleeper studio loft and bed and breakfast accommodation on request.

Our Self-catering Cottage is a quaint stone cottage with four bedrooms; one bedroom has a double bed and the other three bedrooms have twin beds; there is one full bathroom and a separate toilet. The cottage has an open-plan living room and kitchen and there is a cosy wood fireplace. There is also an outdoor braai area in a spacious garden with magnificent views of the surrounding mountains.

Rougham Farm offers three diverse, rustic and unique camping areas. Revert back to the old simplistic camping styles and enjoy the tranquility of it all. There is a quaint stone backpacker cottage with one bedroom with twin beds and an open-plan kitchen and living area. There is a bathroom downstairs for the backpackers and the campers to use. The campsite and stone cottage are a few yards from the Farmhouse Coffee Shop which offers delicious breakfast, lunch and teas.

The Hilltop Bush Camp is a highland bush camp nestled amongst ancient rocks and “ou hout bos” offering 360 degree views over the Southern Drakensberg and East Griqualand. River Land Camp is situated along the tranquil riverbank beside the NgwaNgwane River and under the shade of the willow trees.

We are proud of our farm and invite you to explore all of it. Whether you go cycling, for a walk, swimming in the river or dams, bird watching or swimming is your choice.

Outstanding Views: Wonderful views of the Southern Drakensberg and Ngwangwane River Valley. Rougham is a working beef farm, offering river and dam trout or bass fishing, picnic spots, woodland and farm walks, hill hikes, birding and wild flowers.

Gypsy Rose Farmhouse is the original farmhouse, with wide verandas and a children's play area. This unit has three bedrooms, one of which has an en-suite bathroom with a shower and there is an additional one-and-a-half shower rooms. The unit has a large kitchen, a spacious lounge and a fireplace in the dining room. One can enjoy a stroll in the spacious garden or enjoy magnificent mountain views. Please note that breakfast can be offered on request.

The Hilltop Bush Camp is a highland bush camp nestled amongst ancient rocks and "ou-hout bos" offering 360 degree views of the Southern Drakensberg and East Griqualand. There are two levelled grass areas for tents and wattle windbreaks. There is also an open-air boma. Shower and washroom water is heated by fire under a 'donkey' boiler. There is a fully plumbed toilet. The campsite is a wide span of land and is perfect for larger groups. There is an ablution under the Backpackers Loft.

A convenient campsite for caravans and tents. With the option to camp near an avenue of Plane trees or alongside a seasonal stream and small dam. There is a leveled grassy area for tents and caravans with seperate male and female gas heated shower rooms nearby. Electricity can be provided for the caravans and gas heated water is available in the dish washing area. There is also a fully plumbed toilet. The campsite is a wide span of land and is perfect for large groups. There is an ablution under the Backpackers Loft to service this site.

A cosy stone studio-loft with a wooden deck overlooking the berg. This is a convenient overnight stop en-route on the R617. The unit offers one bedroom with twin beds, a hand basin in the room and an open-plan kitchen and a living area. Downstairs separate male and female gas heated shower rooms can be found. There is gas heated water in the dish washing area. Please note that breakfast can be offered on request.

We were camping in the lower campsite, which is an idyllic and secluded location on the property. The campsite is by a gently moving river and under willow trees. There are some good views of the surrounding hills from the site, so you can enjoy the feel of being in the Drakensburg (the upper campsite is even more spectacular).
