Red Stone Hills Holiday Farm is situated on Route 62, between Oudtshoorn and Calitzdorp. We farm ostriches, cattle, sheep, lucern and vines. Children are welcome to join tractor rides in the mornings while feeding the animals. Field courses are offered on specific dates comprising fossils, geology and botanical walks.

We have eight renovated cottages nestled in a valley of vineyards and surrounded by colourful red stone hills displaying their own natural windows. The units offer bathrooms, DStv, portable air-conditioners, open hearths for indoor barbecues, and fully equipped kitchens. Guests are assured of total privacy and tranquil surroundings.

Enjoy spectacular views of the Red Stone Hills, vineyards and river. A scenic, circular route links our farm with the Swartberg Pass, Cango Caves and the Cango Wildlife Ranch. We offer horse riding on a pony, birdwatching, swimming in the pool or river, rock art, hiking and walking trails to view small mammals, antelope, fynbos and succulents. It is truly a paradise for children and artists.

We offer special rates during low season on a minimum of a two-night stay. We can serve delicious breakfasts on request which range from Continentals to full Farm Breakfasts. We also offer three course dinners and semi self-catering barbecue packs which are delivered to your cottage with a table set and fire made. Enjoy gazing at the stars and hearing the calls of the night life during summer, and a warm cosy fire in an open hearth during winter.

We loved the semi-packaging meals we could buy. We loved the friendliness of the host and accommodation among the hills. The bird life is amazing.

Wish we had more time to enjoy the stunning environment and farm-friendly atmosphere. The cottage was lovely, homely and well appointed, making relaxing so easy! A week spend here would feel like an escape from the world...great for kids to connect with "being a child again".

We stayed for 1 night in the 4 star graded Red Rock cottage whilst passing through Oudtshoorn. We considered a number of other places and decided to spend the extra money and stay in Red Rock. Other places were not considered because they state on the websites that they only have sigle beds in the rooms (we wanted a double) or that they do not have cellphone reception. On arrival at Red Rock we battled to unpack the car as there were millions of ants and they are big enough to bite! The cottage smelled of old fire inside and it seeped quickly into our clothes - not nice to smell like a hut ("stroois"). Other issues: 4 cups only, one cracked badly. unserviceable items like old panel heaters, blinds etc. housed in bedroom corners. Woodborer dust from the reed roof made it impossible to sit in the lounge. Old broken mop head lying at the back door. Bundles of hair coming from the spa jets in the bath. Aircooler is useless as the exhaust pipe is too short to put out of a window and it blows the hot air straight back into the room... in fact heating it up even more. Old dust and spiderwebs all over. Overall not a pleasent experience, especially since it is suppose to be 4 star graded. Did discuss with owner, but clearly nothing will be done about this, hence my posting on the website. This could have been such a nice unit, but if you want to be in this business you have to look after your place and also after the guests and not just shrug it off and blame the cleaners.
