  • The recently upgraded and revamped Camellia Room now has underfloor heating in the bathroom and bedroom. There is a French door opening onto the secluded garden.
  • For the early riser or for those who appreciate the most amazing sunrises you must not miss this fablous sight at dawn!
  • There is a magnificent view from our lounge patio, over the river some 80 metres below and onto the farmlands opposite. Guests can walk to their dairy to see cows being milked on a turntable; 60 cows at once, milked in 11 minutes!!
  • We have recently opened Walking Trails in our immediate vicinity. These range in distance from 1 km to 15 km; ideal for walks before breakfast, after breakfast and for the whole day.
Pick a route to suit your pace. All walks accompanied by our own experienced guide.

  • Facilities
Pleasant Places, which is accredited 4 stars by the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa and is accredited by the Portfolio Collection, offers home away from home, comfortable and cosy accommodation in a quiet setting, overlooking the Lions River and picturesque farming and forest scenes. The peace and tranquillity on the farm make for an ideal place of retreat and drawing aside from daily life.

Visitors can relax in the lounge, on the patio overlooking the Lions River or find a quiet spot in the rambling garden. In winter log fires warm the lounge and dining room. The large number of trees in the garden, the pine forest along the river and the Blue gum forest higher up are alive with numerous species of birds to delight keen bird watchers. Birds are very tame and a variety can be seen while relaxing on the patio.

There are several species of buck in the pastures and forests and, though timid, have been seen from time to time. A number of sections along the river are suitable for swimming, unless it is flooded, when it becomes dangerous, though exciting tubing down the six rapids can be enjoyed by the more adventurous. Those into mountain biking can ride around in the district and the more adventurous can tour the famed Midlands Meander route. There are a few stables around offering horses, ranging from hacks to more sophisticated beasts, for those who enjoy horse riding.
Golfers can arrange a game on the nearby Bosch Hoek Estate Golf Club, known as one of the prettiest in the country or at the Sakabula Club in Howick. The farm is situated in the centre of the famed Midlands Meander arts and crafts route and visitors can enjoy a day or two driving around seeing all the goods and services offered by the various members.

'The only man who behaved sensibly was my tailor; he took my measurement anew every time he saw me, while all the rest went on with their old measurements and expected them to fit me.'(George Bernard Shaw). This is a very apt description of the experience we as a family had at Pleasant Places. John and Linda have managed to create a unique experience for the weary travelers. Following months of business and other setbacks, my family and I arrived at PP with a wish to rejuvenate, relax and enjoy the Country. We have received so MUCH MORE. Dinners consists of Excellent Food, in the class of Specialist Restaurants, a treat to the palate. There were little things, like a clean car every day, a subtle wise word, outstanding wine at very, very reasonable prices which made the experience so much more rewarding. We have stayed in so many very fine establishments before with outstanding service and cuisine, this time we however felt that these specific 'tailors' have taken our measurements anew and for that we are so grateful and impressed. Worth the Visit. With Love Christo, Martha, Andrew (12) and Andrea (3). PS - John did an outstanding cousine job even with the smallest member (Andrea) of our family with desert in the form of Rooimuis (read Roomys or Ice Cream). Ask for this - it is a treat.

John and Linda both gave us a wonderful 2 nights at Pleasant Places. They were friendly and welcoming. The food was absolutely brilliant and dinner was definitely worth having. We showed an interest in going for a walk on our full day there and before we knew it we were being escorted by Sydney (what a lovely lad) on a two and a half hour walk in the most fantastic countryside. We will definitely go back if we have the opportunity and we are certainly recommending it to friends. Do please send John and Linda best wishes from Scotland from Ken and Claudia

Had a wonderful stay, was pleasantly surprised by the wonderful views especially sunrise from the room. Would have preferred a bath and a slightly larger room, which we will make sure to book next time a little earlier. Lovely hosts John and Linda, really heartly breakfasts, and good location.
