Pleasant Places

Description

Pleasant Places, which is accredited 4 stars by the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa and is accredited by the Portfolio Collection, offers home away from home, comfortable and cosy accommodation in a quiet setting, overlooking the Lions River and picturesque farming and forest scenes. The peace and tranquillity on the farm make for an ideal place of retreat and drawing aside from daily life.

Visitors can relax in the lounge, on the patio overlooking the Lions River or find a quiet spot in the rambling garden. In winter log fires warm the lounge and dining room. The large number of trees in the garden, the pine forest along the river and the Blue gum forest higher up are alive with numerous species of birds to delight keen bird watchers. Birds are very tame and a variety can be seen while relaxing on the patio.

There are several species of buck in the pastures and forests and, though timid, have been seen from time to time. A number of sections along the river are suitable for swimming, unless it is flooded, when it becomes dangerous, though exciting tubing down the six rapids can be enjoyed by the more adventurous. Those into mountain biking can ride around in the district and the more adventurous can tour the famed Midlands Meander route. There are a few stables around offering horses, ranging from hacks to more sophisticated beasts, for those who enjoy horse riding.
Golfers can arrange a game on the nearby Bosch Hoek Estate Golf Club, known as one of the prettiest in the country or at the Sakabula Club in Howick. The farm is situated in the centre of the famed Midlands Meander arts and crafts route and visitors can enjoy a day or two driving around seeing all the goods and services offered by the various members.

'The only man who behaved sensibly was my tailor; he took my measurement anew every time he saw me, while all the rest went on with their old measurements and expected them to fit me.'(George Bernard Shaw). This is a very apt description of the experience we as a family had at Pleasant Places. John and Linda have managed to create a unique experience for the weary travelers. Following months of business and other setbacks, my family and I arrived at PP with a wish to rejuvenate, rela ... more

John and Linda both gave us a wonderful 2 nights at Pleasant Places. They were friendly and welcoming. The food was absolutely brilliant and dinner was definitely worth having. We showed an interest in going for a walk on our full day there and before we knew it we were being escorted by Sydney (what a lovely lad) on a two and a half hour walk in the most fantastic countryside. We will definitely go back if we have the opportunity and we are certainly recommending it to friends. Do ... more

Had a wonderful stay, was pleasantly surprised by the wonderful views especially sunrise from the room. Would have preferred a bath and a slightly larger room, which we will make sure to book next time a little earlier. Lovely hosts John and Linda, really heartly breakfasts, and good location.
