Description
Petersfield Mountain Cottages is delightful self-catering accommodation, less than a two-hour drive from Cape Town in the golden valley of Citrusdal. Petersfield is an export citrus and rooibos tea mountain estate, overlooking the majestic Cederberg Mountain Range and the lush orchards of the fertile valley.
We pride ourselves on the quality of our accommodation and the beauty of the surrounding countryside. We offer four fully equipped self-catering cottages, situated more than 1 km apart in a 2000 hectare mountain wilderness area. Each cottage has a distinct character and ambiance, all with unique settings, private plunge pools and privacy.
Several hiking, mountain biking and 4x4 trails in the pristine fynbos mountain provide an opportunity to enjoy the unique ecological splendour of the Western Cape.
Small game abounds around De Kom Cottage and during the late afternoons guests can watch as eagles hunt for basking dassies on the cliffs in front of the cottage. There is a secluded mountain dam approximately 300 m from the cottage as well.
With the emphasis on comfort and complete privacy, Dassieklip Cottage provides every modern convenience.
Die Veepos Cottage is the latest and most spacious addition to Petersfield, offering a luxurious country experience for larger groups or families. In a beautiful setting, nestled against a magnificent rock outcrop, it is completely private with beautiful views over the Olifants River Valley to the north.
Stonehaven Cottage is set high on the mountainside surrounded by fynbos and sandstone formations and boasts spectacular views over the valleys and onto the impressive Cederberg Mountains. It was designed to accommodate one couple only. The accent is on romance and total privacy and the setting would appeal to honeymooners and couples seeking a chic bush getaway.

This unique hideaway for the discerning guest is set under magnificent oak trees, next to a stream in a mountain kloof. Air-conditioning, a fully equipped kitchen, a Jetmaster fireplace, a colour TV with M-Net, a CD player, a full bathroom and the tasteful interiors are all planned to make your stay as comfortable as possible. A sparkling plunge pool, an outside barbecue area and undercover parking complete the picture. Bedding and towels are provided and the cottage can be serviced on request. Dassieklip Cottage has two bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with two single beds. There are two daybeds in the lounge area for extra accommodation.

Set in a natural mountain basin, 2 km from the other cottages, De Kom is truly private and isolated from the stress of the outside world. This charming cottage consists of two bedrooms, one with a queen-size bed and the other with two single beds, plus a double sleeper couch in the lounge area. The appliances in both the kitchen and bathroom are all gas operated to enhance that special mountain ambiance. The sitting room has an indoor fireplace and double French doors leading onto the undercover patio with spectacular views over the plunge pool to the valley below. Pool loungers complete the exquisite feel of bush luxury and sense of wellness whilst the majestic Cederberg Mountains provide a dramatic backdrop.

A generous patio leads onto the terrace around a sparkling plunge pool with white river stones on the bottom. The heavenly outdoor shower set among rocks makes for a sublimely romantic experience. A built-in braai on the patio and undercover parking complete the picture. Bedding and towels are provided and the cottage can be serviced on request.

The open-plan design incorporates a bedroom area boasting a queen-size brass bed, and a lounge, kitchen and dining area. The lounge is furnished around the indoor fireplace to warm guests on cold winter evenings. The bathroom is separate and in the bedroom and there is a romantic double bath with a view of the veld for the mountain ambiance. Stonehaven is powered by solar energy, except for the stove and geyser which are gas operated. Guests can charge computers, cellphones and cameras and also still use the fan to cool off during those warm summer evenings. Hair dryers unfortunately do not work on this solar system. The front patio affords guests spectacular views into the mountain whilst a splash pool is set on the same level for easy access. A built-in braai on the patio and outdoor furniture are practical touches to ensure a relaxing weekend. Pool loungers and an umbrella complete the feeling of laid-back luxury and relaxation.
