Description

Otter’s Bend Lodge, in the heart of the Franschhoek Valley, is a unique backpackers, hikers, and travelers lodge offering a self-catering or bed and breakfast base from which to explore the Western Cape Winelands and Franschhoek.

It also makes an ideal getaway for city dwellers and overnight stop for wedding guests. Otter’s Bend Lodge is situated on a farm, in the heart of the Franschhoek Valley surrounded by wine and fruit farms. A foot track leads off Dassenberg Road through pear orchards down to the Franschhoek River.

The adjoining log cabin rooms and communal living area will quickly absorb you into this gem of a spot where the whispering of the wind in the trees and the rush of the river, as it makes its way round the bend, tend to command a peaceful silence that is appreciated by all the Otter’s visitors.

Twin and double en-suite, log cabin sytle rooms lead out onto a deck situated amongst trees. There is a communal self-catering lounge/dining/kitchen area with large open fire, wood burning stove, and fully equipped kitchen. A dip pool overlooking the river offers the perfect spot to cool off in summer.

Otter's Bend is within easy walking distance of the village, several renowned wine estates, and famous restaurants. Horse riding, hiking, trout fishing, mountain biking, paragliding, wine tours, historical sites, and boutique cellars are on the doorstep.

I recently visited the Franschhoek area for a week and stayed at Otter's Bend Lodge.I was pleasantly surprised with the accommodation relative to the price I paid. I will definitely stay here again if I should ever be in that area again.I really appreciated the privacy even though I shared with a few other people.

This wonderful, friendly place is a great option for people wishing to explore Franchhoek. If you plan to spend most of your time exploring the area, then this is the spot for you. The nightly rate is seriously reasonable, and there's a grassy section for camping. The lodge is an easy walk into town.

You need to change profile pics, it is out of date. I had a fair stay considering it is a backpackers lodge.

Otters Bend is one of the most dirty and disgusting places I have ever booked at. I know it is a backpackers and the cost is low but I have stayed at other backpackers before and it was nothing compared to this.Firstly you need to update the photos on your site because it is not nearly as nice. My complaints is the following:The bathroom door could not close, there was no curtain on the window across the bed, the curtains at the door was very dirty, the bed lamp did not work and last but not least the bed had brown dirty stains on it and it smelled like old sweat.`We ended up staying at anot... see more
