Description

Built in the 1830’s and set on 250 acres of rolling lawns and forests overlooking the Karkloof Valley, Old Halliwell captures the charms and traditions of a more gracious age. Originally built as a fortified farmhouse, the main building now houses a library, games room, lounge, cosy bar and cigar lounge with a wrap-around patio and the Lemon and Lavender restaurant for all your culinary needs.

There are 15 large private en-suite bedrooms leading onto the garden with heated towel rails, DStv, tea and coffee-making facilities, open fireplaces and scenic views from their patios.

The Halliwell Hall has the capacity for up to 260 guests for weddings or 360 guests for conferencing, but can be partitioned for smaller groups. Smithy’s Chapel seats 120 guests with a poolside gazebo, horse and carriage hire and photographic gardens. Old Halliwell is ideal for any celebration.

Enhancing the landscape is the Old Halliwell rest home for horses, where loving owners have sent their fine steeds to while away their golden years in lush green pastures in the heart of the Midlands. The magnificent Midlands consist of golf courses, trout fishing opportunities, winding rivers, spectacular waterfalls, wild flowers and brilliant bird life. Explore the Midlands Meander with its many art galleries, restaurants and craft shops.

Wedding Venues: Smithy’s Chapel seats 120 guests with a poolside gazebo, horse and carriage hire and photographic gardens.

Conference Venues: The Halliwell Hall has the capacity for up to 260 guests for weddings or 360 guests for conferencing, but can be partitioned for smaller groups.

Very quiet, comfortable and beautiful setting. Friendly staff and great food.

29 April 2013

Old building quaint, grounds stunning, staff friendly......our room "tired", needs fireplace like we saw most other rooms offer! Don't go for a dinner if you're rushed, here you need to "chill", relax and enjoy company at your table!

31 March 2013

We spent one evening at Old Halliwell for a wedding in the area. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Our room was spacious but a bit tired in its furnishings: the white sueded couches and carpets peppered with burn marks and coal smudges from the fireplace and the bathroom in need of some re-modelling. Breakfast also left much to be desired: with a very limited cold buffet (curdled-looking yoghurt and some muesli) and a very greasy fry-up. One doesn't have to have a huge selection of food but some fresh fruit and some pastries would go down well. The room served its purpose of a comfortable bed and the convenience of close proximity to the wedding but I don't see us going returning. It is such a pity as the locations, the layout of the rooms and beautiful premises hold great potential.

01 October 2012

The views, the service and the atmosphere of this Inn was so comforting. Wish we'd stayed longer!

23 June 2012

The accomodation was comfortable, however the room was very tired and old looking. Breakfast was also very average. No pastries or extras.
