Description
Hidden
away in the heart of a 1 500 hectare nature sanctuary, in the Southern KZN
Midlands, you’ll find one of the truly tranquil, beautiful places.
We
are situated 65 km south of Pietermaritzburg, near the Hella Hella Pass. This
magnificent property straddles the Ngudwini
River Valley,
and boasts stunning views, waterfalls, natural springs and acres and acres of
pristine unspoiled indigenous bushveld.
Our
luxury lodge consists of a large thatched lounge/dining area with fireplace,
adjoining kitchen and large outside deck area. There are 4 chalets, all tucked
away on the edge of the Ngudwini
River. Romantic and
secluded, the chalets all have en-suite bathrooms with both bath and shower and
each chalet has its own wooden deck area.
Guests
can opt to cater for themselves, or we can provide catering for you. The
kitchen has a gas stove, deep freeze, refrigerator and several large coolboxes
available if required.
What
to do here? The list is long. This sanctuary is a nature lover’s paradise. We
have 260 species of birds, and abundant wildlife, including the shy Nyala and
secretive bushbuck. High points on our birders’ lists include the Crowned
eagle, Blue Swallow and Black Rumped Button Quail. We have specially opened
hiking trails which can take you through the thick riverine bush, or up the
hills into the open grasslands. Because we lie in the mistbelt, this area is
blessed with all sorts of unusual and rare forms of plant life. The young, (and
young at heart!) are kept busy on the famous Ngudwini “bumslide” which is right
in front of the lodge, and exciting (wild!) tubing is the order of the day.
Mountain bikers have a wide choice. Rugged breathtaking climbs and descents, or
peaceful meanders through the gum forests. It’s all here.
