Nyala Pans River Lodge set in the magnificent Umkomaas Valley on the banks of the mighty Umkomaas River. 45 mins from Pietermaritzburg on the Richmond / Ixopo road. Comfortable family accommodation sleeping 20 people in 4 double rooms and 2 lofts. Enjoy tubing, yellow fishing, hiking, cycling, game viewing, birding or the pure tranquillity of the outdoors. Enjoy soaking up the sun on the huge deck and campfires in the boma. Accessible by sedan car, fully serviced with all kitchen facilities. We offer various leisure activities, as well as catering for adventure-sport lovers. These activities include yellow fishing, canoeing, swimming, tubing, bird watching, hiking, mountain-biking and tree-spotting. Horse riding and game viewing can be arranged. In September 2005, we hosted an enormously successful "Yellow Fishing Competition", and needless to say that this will become an annual event. Water conditions were superb and anglers were blown away by the quality of the fight and the catch. All fish were returned to the water in line with conservation ethics. The colour, size and beauty of the fish has coined a new expression: "Natal Gold". The idyllic setting of the lodge lends itself well to the beautiful countryside and quiet nights, perfect for relaxing away from all of today’s responsibilities. From the enormous deck, an abundance of game and birdlife along the river banks and across the grassy plains can be seen in the peace and tranquillity of the Umkomaas Valley, including Nyala, Kudu, Girafffe, Warthog, Wildebeest and Zebra.
