Spangenbergs - family tour

Our 2nd stay(also in 2002) was as enjoyable as the 1st. Great venue for a group. Ideal place to be close to nature and to really recover from the stress of city life.

Great Outdoors
Walking, hiking, dune-boarding and a 4x4 self-drive trail through impressive sand dunes.

Description

A rustic yet comfortably renovated farmhouse fully-equipped for self-catering parties of up to 10 people, situated on the private NamibRand Nature Reserve.
Enjoy spectacular views over the vast plains and ancient blue mountain ranges, set out on foot or by 4x4 into the glowing red dunes for a close encounter with the fascinating variety of Namib Desert fauna and flora.
The kids will love the dune-boarding and endless open spaces, or chasing after beetles and lizards scuttling over the sand dunes.
A small water-hole just 20m from the verandah attracts a myriad of birdlife as well as Oryx, springbok, bat-eared fox, porcupines and other wildlife.
The exceptional surroundings and clarity of the air provide endless opportunities for photography by day and star-gazing by night.
The Hideout is accessible in a normal vehicle. There is also an airstrip less than 5 km away - pick-ups can be arranged.
As the sole occupier of this rustic and historic farmhouse, you will be able to spend quality time alone with your family and friends.
The house is simply yet comfortably equipped for your essential needs, a solid and safe haven from the sometimes harsh desert conditions.
Evidence of bygone farming days still remains in the old walls, fences and outbuildings, almost buried by ever-shifting sand dunes.
Slow down, leave the stress and pace of our high-tech world behind you for a while and relax around an open fire in the silence of the multi-colored sunset, punctuated only by the click of barking geckos.
Here in the vast and ancient Namib Desert, nature still reigns supreme. You may be comforted to know that a portion of your overnight costs goes towards the conservation of this unique and fragile environment.
Our Eco-friendly house has solar lights, a gas fridge, freezer and stove and barbeque facilities. The expansive verandah provides ample shaded space for alfresco dining and living.
The house is also fully wheelchair-accessible. The pure water running in the modern bathroom and kitchen facilities is pumped from far below the desert’s surface.
Water is heated for the showers using a wood-burning oven - please remember to bring firewood for this and your barbecue as no wood may be gathered on the Reserve.
Bedding and towels are available as an optional extra by prior arrangement only; otherwise please bring your own. Further optional extras are a 4x4 self-drive permit and dune board hire.
For an undisturbed back-to-nature desert experience on the NamibRand Nature Reserve.
