Description
This ‘boutique’ Lodge is located 18 kilometers East of Arusha town along the main road leading to Kilimanjaro International Airport. It is situated in a Game Sanctuary which provides many of its visitors with their first exciting game viewing experience. The Lodge is able to arrange full-day and half-day cultural, educational and game viewing excursions to some of the best sites in Tanzania. The many carefully planned facilities available at the Lodge combine to provide visitors with an unforgettable experience of Africa at its very best.
The Lodge comprises 17 Double or Twin en-suite Bedrooms situated in a combination of detached and semi-detached cottages. As you would expect in a hotel of this standard, the design and character of the rooms are as individualistic as the Lodge itself. All rooms have a veranda with comfortable chairs where guests may sit during the late afternoons enjoying the peace of the surroundings, or watching the animals and birds. The Game Sanctuary in which the lodge is situated is unique to the Arusha area. It is complimented by mature and carefully tended gardens which are home to many species of beautiful birdlife. The property, which consist of 33 acres, also sits beside the tranquil waters of the Usa river.
Throughout the 1970’s and early 1980’s, the Lodge and Sanctuary were run by Dr. Andreas Von Nagy and members of his family. They became a very popular stop over for many VIP’s and Government visitors. Various Presidents of African Countries, celebrities, and members of European Royal Families stayed at the Lodge and a visit to the Sanctuary was always included in the official itineraries of Government visitors when in Arusha. Although Dr. Von Nagy is no longer, his son continues to live nearby to the Lodge and to manage the Sanctuary which his father started some 35 years ago. He, together with the Management and Staff of ‘Intimate Places’ look forward to welcoming you to Mount Meru Game Lodge & Sanctuary in a time-honored tradition. CHILDREN POLICY. The Lodge comprises two suites and 15 double or twin en-suite bedrooms. As you would expect in a hotel of this standard, the design and character of the rooms are as individualistic as the Lodge itself. All rooms have a veranda with comfortable chairs where guests may sit during the late afternoons enjoying the peace of the surroundings, or watching the animals and birds. ‘Intimate Places’ have created a completely new look for guest bedrooms at Mount Meru Game Lodge to include:
- Single, Queen and King Size four-poster, wrought iron beds of various designs, all with fitted mosquito nets.
- Continental quilts (sheets and blankets will be available on request)..
- Large and small pillows for reading and sleeping.
- New look bedside tables and luggage racks.

The 'Mount Meru' and 'Mount Kilimanjaro' Suites are located in their own private gardens which enjoy magnificent views of Mount Meru (weather permitting). Each has a 7 feet wide double bed and a private garden gazebo allowing you to sit outside and enjoy the lodge grounds. Butler service is provided to both Suites.
