Mateke is a secluded 2000 hectare natural bushveld game farm, situated 65 km north of Thabazimbi and approximately two and a half hour's drive from Pretoria. It’s part of the world-renowned Waterberg Biosphere in the malaria-free Limpopo Province.

With breathtaking scenery, plentiful game and rich vegetation, Mateke leaves a permanent impression on all our visitors. This unique jewel offers you an intimate and relaxing atmosphere that you only find in the bushveld. The perennial Mamba River flows through the entire length of the farm and provides several beautiful rock pools to cool off in.

Natural game at Mateke are at ease with humans, allowing good viewing. Kudu, waterbuck, zebra, klipspringer, bushbuck, steenbok, grey reebok, mountain reedbuck and of course warthog, baboons, monkeys and also a wide variety of birds can be seen around the farm.

Two circular hiking trails lead to the most scenic areas on the farm, which are marked and well maintained. The many rock pools are popular with children and adults alike. Mateke's 4x4 trail runs through rocky terrain with steep inclines and river crossings that make for a good day's outing. Picnic spots between indigenous trees and halfway stopovers offer one the opportunity for a well-deserved break.

We stayed one night at Mateke and I would love to go back. Theresa the host was amazing. The accommodation was excellent. We were right on the river and the nature sounds were all we could hear - sheer bliss. So reasonably price for superb accommodation.

Simple but sufficient facilities, and a great view of the river's wildlife.
