Experience the natural beauty of the Eastern Cape bushveld at Mansfield Game Reserve. This exclusive reserve is set along the Kowie River, in the heart of the Sunshine Coast. We are located a mere 6 km outside of Port Alfred on the Bathurst Road via vehicle or come by boat 11 km up the Kowie River.

We have a variety of accommodation options available, from elegant lodging, superb restored ox wagons dating from the 1800s, to rustic camping and caravan sites, each with breathtaking views. You can expect an exceptional level of comfort, rest and relaxation at this unique reserve during your stay.

Mansfield Reserve offers a wide range of activities and facilities available for all to enjoy, be it at our Black Rock riverside seasonal restaurant, kid's play park with jungle gym, trampoline, rock pool, sandpit and an Old Land Rover, or our picnic and braai/barbecue facilities. This is the perfect place to spend the day with family and friends.

In addition, the reserve also offers birdwatching, picnicking, fishing, canoeing or picturesque game drive in our open game-viewing vehicles ensuring a most memorable game viewing experience. Walking and hiking trails abound through the reserve; view the abundant range of wildlife and bird life that would satisfy any nature lover. Relish the pleasant and safe encounters with our game, from zebra, wildebeest, impala, blesbuck, bushbuck, nyala, eland, waterbuck, duiker and monkeys, as well as a friendly giraffe called Gambit that will let you get up close.

We stayed on the platform, it was just so amazing and waking up as the sun rose was awesome! Gambit even came down to say hello! We are planning on returning every year from now on, holding thumbs.

My husband and I spent 3 glorious days at Eagle's Nest. It was our honeymoon and will remain our anniversary getaway each year. The log cabin was homely and comfortable, the view was magnificent and we had a 'wow' moment each time we walked out onto the deck. It was quiet, peaceful and close to amenities. A definite must for nature and bush lovers. Thanks to Gary and Leda for a memorable stay.

Mansfield offers eight regular campsites. Overlanders, caravans and tents welcome. Hot water showers, toilets and basins are available at the communal open-air ablutions. Washing up facilities and braai areas are available. The sites do not have electricity, but generator power is available on request at an additional rate.

Eagle's Nest is a log cabin with spectacular views over the Kowie River. It has a double bed and two single beds in an open-plan area with a kitchen and a private bathroom. Solar panels are used to provide lighting and a gas stove and a gas fridge are available. An old-fashioned donkey boiler is used to provide hot water for the shower. All linen, cutlery and crockery are provided in this ideal, romantic getaway.

The ox wagons at Mansfield Private Game Reserve offer a truly African outdoor experience. Guests are accommodated in professionally restored ox wagons. These wagons, dating from the 1800s, offer luxuriously appointed interiors. The Ox Wagon Camp is ideal to just escape from the modern trappings of usual accommodation facilities. Every ox wagon can sleep up to two guests. We provide guests with bedding, towels and a picnic basket with amenities such as cutlery, crockery and glasses.

The Lodge is a three-bedroom farmhouse. Two of the bedrooms are en-suite and the third bedroom has a separate bathroom. Other features include a large kitchen area, and a lounge with a TV, selected DStv and a DVD player. Two braai areas and a boma fire pit, as well as a swimming pool are for guest use. All linen, cutlery and crockery are provided.
